I was shocked when I heard the news today that Giacoletti resigned. It is not something that I expected at all; especially at this point in the season.
I'm obviously happy with the decision. I have been asking for Giac to be replaced all season long. Nonetheless, my soft side always comes up in situations like this. I started to feel somewhat sorry for Giacoletti. Except for the fact of winning games, he seemed to run the program well at Utah. This will give Giacoletti's replacement the ability to immediately be successful. I am thankful for Giacoletti in that respect.
Then again, as soon as I learned that Giac would receive his full buyout on his contract I didn't feel so sorry for him. He'll receive $175,000 a year for the next four years for doing absolutely nothing. That is a whole lot of golf. Anyway, Giac doesn't have to worry about landing a job anytime soon. It's tough to feel too sorry for a guy that we'll be paying good money for nothing the next few years.
Now the real fun begins. Who will be Giac's replacement? We can start talking about it for real. It should be interesting to see who Chris Hill reels in. I'm looking forward to it.
