Ranked Teams Above Utah
Of the teams above Utah in the polls, which of them do you think is most likely to lose?
#1 Texas plays #6 Oklahoma State, this is a big game for Utah because if Texas completely dominates these guys, Utah could move up. If OSU wins, that could keep both of them ahead of the Utes. As much as I would like to see Texas lose, I think we should wait a week or two before that. I like moving up in front of OSU.
#2 Alabama plays a weak looking Tennessee team. That would be one of the greatest things for Tennessee to beat Alabama, but I don't see that one happening at all.
#3 Penn State plays #9 Ohio State. This is another big one for Utah, if Penn State wins we will most likely move up in the polls. While if Ohio State wins, this could leave both teams still ahead of us. Same dilemma as the Texas game. I think Penn State wins this game. They look like the best team in the country. Texas looks to be right there also.
#4 Oklahoma goes up against Kansas State who is 4-3 on the year. This one is unlikely, but we will see. I would say Oklahoma dominates this game from start to finish.
#5 USC plays an uprising Arizona team who is 5-2, 4-0 at home. USC has to travel to Arizona, this would be on my upset watch, Arizona has been quiet through the season to a point. I, personally, would not be surprised to see USC go down. I think USC is a great team, but Arizona looks to be a bit of a force and especially on their own turf. This is a tough one, but I think Arizona can do it and pull off the upset on USC.
#7 Georgia plays #13 LSU, this is another intriguing game for the Utes, if LSU wins, we probably won't move because of this game because LSU will probably jump over us. While Georgia wins and they could move up depending on the other games. Then knock LSU down away from us. That would be nice. I think it being at LSU, LSU will probably win. Georgia drops underneath us but LSU jumps in front of us, no movement from this game.
#8 Texas Tech takes on #23 Kansas, I think it willl be tough for Kansas to win, but it is on their field, Texas Tech looks good but they haven't played much this yeaer so far. I think Kansas could pull it off but it might be a small miracle. I think Tech prevails and stays up in front of us.
Finally, #10 Florida plays Kentucky. This game is at the Swamp and should be an easy W for the Gators, but they lost to Ole Miss in the Swamp, who knows. Maybe Kentucky will surprise everyone, just like Ole Miss. Although, I doubt this will happen, I think Florida wins big and moves up in the polls.
So now that I went over the teams ahead of Utah, what do you think? Who will win and who will lose ahead of us? Will Utah move up, down, or stay the same in their idle week? Will Boise State, who plays a tough San Jose State, jump right over us and become the front runner for the BCS? I think there are going to be enough teams losing in front of us we will move up regardless of LSU and BSU jumping us.

I suppose this all depends on your outlook
All we need to do to stay ahead of Boise State, and get an AQ is win. Indeed, with 2 ranked teams left we will expand our lead over them with time. Simply moving up in the standings is not really significant.
Are you thinking about Utah getting to the title game? If so Texas, Alabama and Penn State will likely need 2 losses each for us to pass them. Oklahoma, USC, Oklahoma State, Georgia, Texas Tech, Ohio State, Florida, LSU and Missouri need to lose one to stay below us.
Of the one loss teams, Oklahoma State, Georgia, Texas Tech, Florida, LSU and Missouri will either be eliminated due to conference play or take down a number of others by standing firm.
This leaves Texas, Alabama, Penn State, Oklahoma, USC and Ohio State as teams that stand in our way, with others able to replace them in head ot head compitition.
Unless two of Texas, Penn State and Alabama lose our national championship chances will remian negligable.
Are you thinking 2 teams from outside the BCS might get in? This would simply require 2 losses by Ohio State. A second top 14 team from outside the big 6 would then be the only other eligible team.
I hope you don’t want 2 MWC teams… That would require a Boise State loss and us losing to TCU and/or BYU. Both TCU and BYU can jump into the top 12 with a win over Utah. Utah would likely stay in the top 14, with a single loss and another win over a top 25 team.
Well...
Obviously that would be awesome to be in the title game but I don’t see that happening. Penn State if they beat Ohio State this weekend they shouldn’t lose. Texas has a good chance of losing, looking at their schedule. Alabama I don’t think is that great of a team, they have the one big win against Georgia, but still….
I think it would be awesome to get two non-BCS teams in the BCS. Obviously, I want to go undefeated but it would be nice if we could get two from the MWC without us losing. That probably most likely won’t happen. People would go ballistic if Utah and Boise State made it into the BCS. The only thing that would be dumb is that they would probably pair us up and it would be a Fiesta Bowl Utah vs. Boise State. I don’t really want that. I want us playing two whole different teams and both of us winning. Putting two non-BCS teams undefeated with most likely only a really tough Penn State team. We will have to see tho. I think if we lose one game, there is no chance to get into the BCS.
Coach Whit today said if Utah is the only undefeated team in the nation Utah deserves to be in the National Championship. I think that is true but, they won’t give it to us. Only showing how screwy the BCS is again.
GO UTES!!
Who would Utah and Boise State Play?
Assume two of the SEC Champ, BIG 12 Champ, Penn State or USC get to the title game. SEC #2 and Big 12 #2 are in te BCS, as are the ACC #1 and Big East #1.
I really think the Orange Bowl is a lock for an ACC-Big East show down.
NC: SEC #1 vs Big 12 #1
Rose: USC vs Penn State
Fiesta: Big 12 #2 vs Boise State
Sugar: SEC #2 vs Utah
The Rose bowl will take USC or Penn State if they are available. They would have 1st pick if they lose one. In this case the SEC or Big 12 champion would be in the the Sugar or Fiesta bowl respectively. The Rose Bowl would then pick up the second SEC or Big 12 team. One of us plays in the Fiesta Bowl, the other in the Sugar Bowl.
Scenario 2: This one is hard to figure, the Rose Bowl may take one of us.
NC: USC vs Penn State
Rose: BIG 12#2 SEC #2
Fiesta: BIG 12#1 Boise State
Sugar: SEC #1 Utah
Scenario 3:
NC: Texas vs Oklahoma
Rose: USC vs Penn State
Fiesta: SEC #2 vs Utah
Sugar: SEC #1 vs Boise State
I really don’t see us playing Boise State.
Really?
That would be one of the easiest ways out for the BCS. Just put the non-BCS teams against each other so that there isn’t possibly two non-BCS teams undefeated after the season. Both saying they probably deserved to play in the national championship. That would make the BCS look even worse.
GO UTES!!
It would be almost impossible for us to play against boise
The bowls get to pick their participants. Their first choice is the contractually-required conference champ (ACC to Orange, Big 12 to Fiesta, SEC to Sugar, PAC 10/Big 10 to Rose). So it would depend on which bowl is picking, but even if it’s the Fiesta and the Sugar, which of those games is willing to pit two non-bcs programs against each other? The fiesta? We’ve both played there already. The sugar? They’d love that. Instead of taking an SEC team they take Utah and Boise? The Orange? Maybe, but that assumes an ACC team in the national title game (not likely). The Rose? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Never. The rose bowl picked a horrible Illinois team instead of Georgia last year to preserve their ‘tradition’. They’d do it again in a heartbeat.
Everyone hates a pink-shirt-wearing communist.
