Patterson to K-State
UPDATE: It does not appear this story is true...yet. Of course, I was skeptical at first, since the season is not over, but it was being reported as truth and I took it as such.
As of right now, Patterson is the head coach of TCU.
Shocking news, since the season isn't even over yet, but Yahoo Sports reporting Patterson has accepted the Kansas State job just hours after losing to the Utes Thursday night.
Shades of 2004 here and hopefully we don't face the same prospects with Whittingham when the season ends.

Disappointing
I don’t particularly like him personally, but he has been a great coach for TCU. Sometimes schools do just fine after a coach leaves for bigger and better things and sometimes the schools are never relevant again. TCU has made this transition once before; Dennis Franchione revived the program and then stayed successful under Gary Patterson.
This year has been great for MWC respectability, but that did not happen overnight. Since joining the conference for the 2005 season, they have gone 11-1, 11-2, 8-5, and 9-2 this year (with one game + a bowl game left to play). They have gone 3-0 in their bowl games since joining the conference.
I hope they stay a power and keep the MWC interesting. Although I respect the top half of the conference, the bottom is dreadful.
Seems like Rivals has pulled the story
and patterson was apparently pissed about it:

Do you think it was leaked and true, or leaked and not true?
If it were leaked and true, K-State just lost its coach, IMO.
I'm thinking it kills K-State's chances either way
Think about it on two fronts:
1- K-State offers him the job, he says “yes, but don’t say anything until I finish the season with my kids” then the leak hits the papers and he flips out and tells them to screw it, he’s a frog.
OR
2- K-State is trying to get him in for an interview, but they haven’t made a decision. Someone leaks the story that he’s accepted, it pisses him off and he decides he doesn’t want the job even if offered.]
I don’t think it helps them either way. He may still take the job, but their life would have been easier if not for the rumor. Also, personally, he’s an idiot if he takes that job. K-State is a bad BCS job. In the Big 12 there are only a few worse jobs (IA State, Baylor, maybe Kansas). In fact, of the open BCS jobs right now (Washington, Tennessee, K-State, Clemson), K-State is the worst (yes, including the Washington job). The only reason he’s even thinking about K-State is because he’s an alum and a Kansas local.

I'd be shocked . . .
If that guy was in the MWC much longer. You’d think someone in the Big 12 would want a defense minded coach.
I think Whittingham will stay, he’s got a good thing here, but that big money has gotta be really hard to say no to.
We're more money than we used to be.
I know Kyle’s contract is on par right now with a mid-level BCS coach (in any conference except the SEC). Florida/Michigan/Alabama money would be hard to turn away (and not something we could match), but Oregon State, Washington, Kansas State money could be matched by Utah (and probably by TCU). Tennessee is the only scary job out there (right now), and I don’t think they come after Whit.
If Coach Whitt leaves Utah for a bad situation (K-State and Washington are bad situations) I would be surprised. I wouldn’t be surprised if he leaves for a good one (Tennessee is a good one, Auburn would be too if it comes up).
