Hey Utah Fans...

I’m a diehard Alabama fan here in Birmingham, AL and while trying to do some scouting on your team I ran across your blog. Just wanted to say that although I wish we were playing a team with more national recognition I am looking forward to the game. (no disrespect, but from a perception stand point, we have everything to lose and very little to gain playing a mid-major like you guys. I am not trying to say I think we will destroy you guys, on the contrary, I think it will be a good game. But nationally the spin will not be good for us, win or lose.)

Having said that, congrats on a great season and can’t wait to see you guys in New Orleans.

BTW – It would be great if you guys did some collaborative work with rollbamaroll.com and let us know more about your team, it’s traditions, style of play, etc.

Roll Tide!

Thank you for the respectful post.

Of the Alabama message boards & blogs, rollbamaroll seems to have the more respectful posters about Utah’s program.

While it may be true that your SEC brethren will give you no respect for a win and heap scorn on you for a loss, Utah carries some respect out west. Texas would likely have garnered more respect, but the Fiesta Bowl has a Big XII affiliation. Other than them, Utah is your best option.

Ohio State? The embarrassments in the last two BCS title games have hurt them in terms of public perception.
Cincinnati? They almost lost last night at Hawai’i and the Big East is weak this year.
Virginia Tech? They have three losses already, and VT invariably losses in BCS games.

We try to be as objective and respectful as possible at RBR. I’ve attended university at an SEC school, a Big East school and a C-USA school. Though Alabama is my first love in football, I also cheer for the other universities I attended so I have a different outlook than a lot of fans of major programs in that I recognize and appreciate the accomplishments of teams that might not have a fancy brand name like Alabama, Texas, Penn State or USC, but that play fine football. And the Utes definitely play good ball.

We’ll definitely be collaborating with Block U, JazzyUte & crew on this game if they’re up for it. I’ve really enjoyed Block U since they joined SBN and am happy that we have some cool folks to work with on what promises to be a fun and exciting Sugar Bowl match-up.

All of you Block U folks are welcome to come over to RollBamaRoll for discussion. We look forwarded to spirited (but respectful) football talk with y’all.

Congrats to Utah fans

I said a couple of weeks ago that if Utah gets a good bowl game I would come back to congratulate you. Congratulations. 12-0 is great.

I’m curious like everyone else to see how it will play out. I suppose anything can happen, but like martincr70 said, Alabama has nothing to gain here, and a lot to lose.

Ute in DC says Utah has a lot of respect out west, compared to what they would have among the SEC. That is true, I guess, unless you include certain teams from the populous states of California and Texas, and then Oklahoma. I can’t imagine any of them look at Utah as more than just ‘another MWC team’.

The undefeated season looks good, but you have to factor in how it includes NO teams in the top 10, and only 2 teams in the most recent BCS rankings that are in the top 25. These two teams happen to be in the MWC (wow) as well. Michigan proved to be a joke, and even Oregon St. is NOT in the most recent BCS top 25. A 2 and then 3 point victory respectively. A team of course is really going to show how good they were in ’08 not by where they started in the rankings, but where they finish. Michigan and Oregon St. – not as hot as once thought.

My true condolences go out to Texas Tech. Heaven forbid someone would lose to now #1 ranked Oklahoma during the season. When a system doesn’t allow a team like this a BCS bowl game, there is a serious flaw.

Oh, and again, best of luck Utah. Hope it’s a fun one to watch, whoever wins.

not much to gain

like Utah had not much to gain when we got matched up with Pittsburgh in the Fiesta Bowl

be happy you get to face a undefeated team with a great bowl history

I don't get that "nothing to gain" arguement?

We’re talking about the Sugar Bowl here, not the Independence bowl, This is one of the premier bowls and both teams will coming out swinging. Hell, any excuse to take a trip to New Orleans ($79 flights via Southwest Air), is a good excuse.

I look forward to watching my Tide battle it out on the field with what is, as of now, a mystery team to me. I look forward to learning about your team in the coming weeks as the game inches ever closer.

I'm in no condition to drive...wait! I shouldn't listen to myself, I'm drunk.
