Poll: The Utah--USU Series
What does everyone think of the Utah-USU series?
The reason I ask is that Utah announced that its series with Utah State will go on hiatus during 2010 and 2011 so that the Utes can play Notre Dame in 2010.
The Utah press release:
To make room for the game, Utah and Utah State agreed to suspend their annual series for two years in 2010 and 2011. The Utes and Aggies plan to resume play in 2012 with a game in Logan.

I think a couple of the options work...
I voted for the “tradition” one. But the “beating up on your kid brother” fits (though in that case USU will probably grow up one day and retaliate). Same with the “better than a 1-AA” team.
Who knows… maybe they’ll be good by 2012. You know… if BYU doesn’t go around stealing their QBs when they’re on missions (you know… if USU did the same thing to BYU, BYU would probably cause a huge ruckus)...
I can’t wait for the ND game. That’ll be fun.
The Utah Jazz. The Jazz... duh.
The best NBA team in Utah... no doubts about it!
Playing For Pride. Pirates, Utes, Panthers, and more...
Because, in the end, only one team can "win it all".
It's tough to answer.
I think playing USU every year might not be a need, however, if it’s them or a Championship Subdivision team, I’ll take the Aggies every day and twice on Sunday. But if it’s Utah State or a home game against Cal…give me Cal.
Maybe play USU every other year from now on?
Keep the Aggies
I am a traditionalist. I hope the Aggies are good again so that this can once again be a rivalry. And I like their stadium in Logan. It is really a great place to watch a football game.
The only reason I think the Utes should drop USU would be if they could guarantee a Pac-10 opponent or a BCS neighbor like Colorado every year. That does not seem too likely.
As for scheduling the Aggies every other year, that would be a bit of a scheduling headache. The series could go two years on and then two years off, but I don’t think that it would be feasible to do it every other year. And I like the tradition anyway.
The apparent reason for the disruption in the series is to avoid a home-away conflict for Utah in 2010.
The traditional alignment has Utah State with 3 away games in 2011, one of which would be Utah.
We need a home game in 2010 and Utah State needs a home game for 2011. Why not swich the venue for these two years?
Aggies Like the Hiatus
The rumor is that Chris Hill and Kyle Whittingham wanted exactly what you propose, but Utah State would not go for it. Apparently, USU wants a two year hiatus so that they can schedule a patsy and get a little momentum going.
From their perspective, I can see why they want that and it gives their fans a chance to watch a win for two years.
As for the U, I am worried that it is going to schedule a couple of home FCS games those two years. But if the U can somehow manage to get a home-and-home series with a BCS team, then this will turn out to be a major coup.
No Purple Wildcats
As long as we don’t get more Weber State’s and SUU’s on our schedule I’m happy.
We need more Colorado’s. Back 30 years ago we had a good series going with them, it would be nice to get that going again.
