I am truly mystified by all the love for Pitt

Pittsburgh hasn’t had a winning season since 2004 (anyone else recall their bowl game that year?) going 5-6 in ’05, 6-6 in ’06, and 5-7 in ’07. From those records, it is unjustifiable to be voting them in the top 25 until they actually start having more wins than losses.

They are getting far too much mileage from one game – their upset over West Virginia to finish their season. How did the AP voters collectively forget their seven losses?

Don’t try and argue that their Big East schedule was harder than Utah’s. They had two common opponents last year: Louisville and Navy. Pittsburgh went 0-2 against them.

Utah destroys Pitt in ’05 Fiesta Bowl. Utah has had a better record in each of the last five seasons (in ’03 Pitt was 8-5 and Utah was 10-2). Utah has a better record against their common opponents last year. And somehow Pitt starts the season ranked? That makes no sense whatsoever.

FEAR THE WANNSTACHE!!

Pitt gets the love for a couple of reasons.
1. Recruiting classes. Every class they’ve had since Wannstache got there has been good to excellent (for Pitt).
2. BCS – believe it or not, but the Big East is going to be considered a better conference than the MWC because of its affiliations.
3. Pitt has a great returning offense. They get Kinder back from injury, McCoy is a hell of a back and Pat Bostick showed a lot of promise last year.

If you actually beat Michigan like most of you think you will and Pitt falters then you can talk. But right now, before any games have been played, Dave Wannstedt’s moustache almost automatically gives them a top 25 ranking.

Good recruiting classes are a start

But often recruits do not pan out. Until they start winning games, it is debatable whether or not Wannstedt is a good recruiter. Just because a couple of so-called experts dub them 3 or 4 star recruits does not mean they will be good college players.

Second, you have to coach them. Wannstedt has not shown he can do that at the college level. Good college coaching involves developing players and good game planning. Without a single winning season to his credit since he went to Pitt in ’05, he has not proven he is a good college coach.

Everyone in college football has the exact same record 0-0 so I don’t need to wait to “talk.”

Good recruiter + no wins = BAD COACH!

I disagree with you. If a program is getting good recruits and not putting up wins their is a problem.

If a program is sending players to the NFL regularly and not getting wins their is a problem.

Both of these are signs of extreme talent at a program not being used to their potential. It is the coaches job to use players to their full potential.

Boise State has excelled at this, Alabama not so much. Apparently Pitt is on the bad side of things.

Agreed

I didn’t say Wannstedt was a good coach, I said he had a miraculous ’stache.

Your “I don’t need to wait to talk” comment is assinine. Like normal Pitt is rated high because of their recruiting prowess and this year because they beat WVU. I merely said wait until they falter (like they normally do) and then talk about how much better you are then them.

Also: Their, there, they’re. Come on people, use that education.

If you are going to point out the grammar mistakes of others . . .

1) “Then” is used to indicate a sequence of events. “Than” is used comparatively. They are not interchangeable.
2) You used two comma splices in this one post.
3) “Assinine” is not a word. I think you meant “asinine.”

“Assinine” was meant to be clever. I guess I should’ve spelled it “ASSinine.”

Outside of that, I’m pretty much a douche.

But the new post says your offense sucks and that makes me happy because now our football teams have something in common.
