Utes beat Michigan in the Big House

It wasn't pretty at times, but Utah held on and just recorded the biggest road win in program history! GO UTES!

Thank Michigan for the W and the $800K but.....

Utah came out to Win in the 1st half. In the second half Utah played not to loose! What a disappointment that Utah did not make a statement in this nationally televised game. Once again Whit and Ludwig had an opponent on the ropes and DID NOT put the stake through the heart.
The Utah team racked up 179 yards in penalties – granted for a while there I wasn’t even sure that the guys in the strips weren’t playing for Michigan. Regardless still 179 yards in penalties? Gasser time boys! I hope you drop in practice on Tuesday. Discipline is the key to winning tight games. We were lucky today.
Johnson’s play was better than average in the 1st half but he started to hear foot steps in the 2nd and thus the 50 yards in offense????? Almost choked there Brian.
Ludwig’s play calling in the 2nd half – pitiful! If the average fan knows that Michigan’s D would step it up in the 2nd half Ludwig should be prepared to counter act their adjustments. The only time I saw even a hint of counter acting Michigan’s adjustments was the 1 time Utah came out with a moving pocket.
Like they say a Win is a Win but a WIN WITH A STATEMENT would have been much better.

I understand and agree.

I think we all would have loved to win 35-10 or 42-10, but the fact we won is good enough for me.

Utah didn’t play well on offense in the second half, though their defense played great the entire game.

Biggest Road Win In Program History?

We started six freshman and played two different QBs with ZERO college football experience total, lose by two, and it’s the biggest win in your school’s history? I wouldn’t be too excited.

Good game, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves.

Go Blue.

It's not getting ahead of ourselves.

The fact is, Utah doesn’t own many great road wins, at least against BCS programs with history like Michigan.

Our last really nice road win against a BCS team was against Arizona in 2004 and they won like 2 games that year. For pure hype, it was a big win. The biggest road win, too, but only because it is Michigan. They could go 0-12 and it’d still be a huge win.

Well said.

Good luck for the rest of the season.

Nice win, guys.

We’ll see you in a few weeks. Should be a tough game for us based on what the Utes showed today.

Jake---

I’m betting OSU wins that game, they’re a fine team and I don’t see Utah handling it’s wins and status as well as OSU does that Stanford loss in terms of motivation.

Yes, OSU spanked us last year and that’s a motivation, Yes, Utah is a better team this year and we’re at home, but Utah is also inconsistent every year, OSU looked every bit the real deal and frankly, Stanford was lucky to beat them.

If PennState wins, look for OSU to go intercontinental in terms of rage on us, particularly as with your conference they have to be looking at Utah as a “must win” to make a higher tier bowl. The Beavers game loomed all year to me as our biggest challenge, especially after UMs four starting linemen left.

How has OSU handled adversity in the past?

Cheers,

Big win, though frustrating

Wow, what a game. First half was great. We had both sides of the ball playing great. Then came the second half where our defense was still playing great. Ugh, WhoAmISir you hit this right on the head. The second half we were playing not to loose, and that gets very frustrating. Why can’t we play to win all four quarters? And wow, 15 penalties for 179 yards. But ya know what, we got the W, in the BIG HOUSE. Great start to the season. Good luck to the Wolverines for the rest of the season. Now bring on the Rebs!

The penalties. Ouch.

Also… the rushing attack. Yahoo! & the WWL each show Johnson having like 16 carries for -60 yards. What’s up with that?

Did Asiata look good? (I didn’t watch the game… superstition reasons…)

And Ludwig’s play calling in the 2nd half… sigh. I guess we’ve come to expect it from him.

The Utah Jazz. The Jazz... duh.
The best NBA team in Utah... no doubts about it!
Playing For Pride. Pirates, Utes, Panthers, and more...
Because, in the end, only one team can "win it all".

1-0

Ludwig tried as hard as he could to kill it and let Michigan walk away with the W. But we got lucky and our defense played really well, dominating the whole game. People were saying how Michigan would run it through us the whole game and we stepped up. Only allowing 36 yards on the ground. Thats awesome. There were a couple plays on defense that were bad tho. Like the touchdown pass after the blocked punt. It was low enough that it could have been swatted out of the air. But it’s all good I guess since we held them off for the win. The penalties were pathetic. Tho at times I didn’t think there was a need to call some of them. How about the direct snap to Asiata tho? With Brian off playing wide out. Asiata would just pound it through their defense for at least 5 yards every time. It’s good to have a tough running game again finally. Even better starting out 1-0 for the first time since 2005. The way Brian played through the first half made me excited tho. He plays like that the whole year and we may be looking at a BCS bid.

GO UTES!!

Congrats!

Congrats Utes! I’ve become a fan of your team via playing with them on NCAA football video games. :D

Good win yourself!

Isn’t it funny how you become a fan of playing teams through video games? That’s how I became a Dallas Stars fan and now I’m a Buffalo Bulls fan because I used them as my dynasty last year and built a really solid program.
