C'mon Obama, invite the Utes to the White House.

Is it his decision to make?

I’m not sure on the protocol. The season ends today and he’s not president yet. Is it his decision or GWB’s?.

To invite the winner of the NC?

I think as president, they can invite whomever they’d like.

But I don’t know.

Richard Nixon declaired Texas National Champs in 1969

That was before the Bowls had been played, and despite an undefeated Penn State team.

That team also has the dubious distinction of being the last all white team to be crowned national champion.

Certainly the current office of the White House can make attonement for this history.

All white? Probably why Nixon invited 'em!

Not to turn this into a political debate, of course.

I’d love for Obama to declare Utah champions. I mean, it’s no less valid than the BCS doing it.

I mean invite them.

Yes I know that as president he can invite whoever, but there is still a protocol about how it should be done. I could be wrong, but I think the way it has been done is that the person who is president at the time invites the championship team.

I'm not so sure.

I say this because normally it happens months after the champion is won.

LSU visited the White House in April last year after winning their championship.

So look for a spring visit, when Obama will be President and not President Elect.

In that case

Please Obama – do it! It’s a great way to throw your weight around and sends a symbolic gesture to help get the ball rolling towards a playoff.

You guys are really

stretching aren’t you?

When you are an Alabama fan you are expected to hate Auburn, I hate Tennessee because I want to.

No.

We want a playoff. This could help.

by Ute in DC on Jan 8, 2009 1:45 PM MST up reply actions

Stretching what? Recognition for what we did?

How crazy of us to actually want something our team earned and deserves…a chance at the title.

That’s just so out there, isn’t it?

by JazzyUte on Jan 8, 2009 1:49 PM MST up reply actions

yeah man i know

But it’s not going to happen this year. face the facts. Whoever wins tonight is the NC. Just like Auburn in ’04, its going to be hard to swallow but i guarrantee if you guys follow up next year with another one loss or undefeated season, you will be playing in the NC game. Write that down.

Trust us, we'll shut up.

But it’s impossible to ignore, so I’ll continue harping on it until Utah football starts up again.

I’m guessing by next month, there won’t be many people talking about it here. But for now, with the season still there and a slim hope of getting votes, it’s the least we can do.
