TCU does their job every single year. BYU is known nationally. But Utah is the one going undefeated, beating Alabama, winning the Fiesta Bowl (in 2005), I think that's huge for us. There's always a little added incentive going against a nationally-known team like that.

if sanford could not get his team motivated to get that 6th win last year
what makes him think he can get him motivated vs the utes this season. utah wins big. sanford gets canned at the end of season.

I agree...
That game, against arguably one of the worst teams in the nation last year with so much on the line, should have been won by the Rebels.
I don’t fear them being motivated. I fear Utah not being motivated and even that seems like a stretch, since I doubt they’ve forgotten about 2007.
i read that the ncaa is going to have 36 bowl games by 2011
by 2011 they are only adding 1 team as far as i know and it’s south alabama and they will play in the sunbelt conference. that would make 121 fbs ream. if they have 36 bowl games that means 72 teams have to qualify. that also means 49 teams don’t make it. what is the ncaa going to do. drop the number of wins to 5 or increase the number of games. i can’t see them increasing the number of games b/c that would extend the season and that was the reasoning against a playoff. very peculiar?

These bowls are getting ridiculous...
Especially when you realize teams probably LOSE money on these bowl games.
While I don’t like the old era where so many 8-9 win teams were left out of a bowl games (Utah went 8-3 in ‘78, 8-2-1 in ’81 and 8-4 in ’85 and didn’t make a bowl game), we’re over saturating things.
They really do need to slash these bowl games by a lot.
I agree, even though I do enjoy watching these bowl game matchups and seeing stars emerge. The problem is that when one conference can field 10 bowl teams(ACC last year) which is 80% of the conference, you have a major problem letting just about everyone into a bowl game, it’s difficult nowadays not to make a bowl game, just field a decent team and you are in… and that kind of defeats the purpose of rewarding the deserving teams of postseason play, doesn’t it?
I would like to see a source.
They are talking about adding one next year, and I could see talks about adding another.
I can also see a number of the smaller bowls go belly up.
Last year the NCAA realized they have too many already and issued a notice to the bowls that their might not be enough teams to fill all the bowl slots.
If the maximum number of teams with a winning record over the past four years, counting at most 1 team outside FBS per year the number of bowls should be increased. If the minimum of this value plus the teams with a 6-6 record and at most 1 team outside the FBS is less than the current number of bowl slots the number of bowls should be reduced.
This would suggest that between 30 and 33 Bowl games is appropriate. There are 34 this year. I have a design in the works that would allow 42-43 bowls to be accomodated each year. This will be included as a $120 Million increase to a proposal I recieved feedback from the BCS about this summer. I plan to have this prepaired by January.
Though not explicit in the rule changes, these changes to the NCAA rules could allow the formation of a plus one.
