Around SBN: Did The Giants Run Buddy Ryan's 'Polish Goalline'?

The Advocare V-100 Independence Bowl will feature an ACC-Mountain West match-up starting in 2010.

In the past, the SEC and the Big XII send so many teams to the BCS that by the time you get to the 7th or 8th pick, there were a few years that the Independence Bowl didn't have anyone to choose from. That won't be the case with the new partnerships.

Not a very good location for us, unfortunately...

I mean, we couldn’t get many fans to New Orleans for the Sugar Bowl, so I’d expect a much smaller crowd.

Of course, we’ll be winning the MWC every year, so it won’t matter. :)

Still a better than the New Mexico Bowl, though.

Looking at last years payouts...

BcS: $9.4 M
Independence: $1.10 M

Las Vegas: $1.00 M
Pointsettia: $0.75 M
Humanitarian: $0.75 M
New Mexico: $0.75 M
Armed Forces: $0.60 M

The MWC champ shouldgo to a bowl with a $2 M payout.

The Liberty Bowl pays out $1.7 M every year to the C-USA champion.

I really think the Liberty Bowl missed an opportunity to make a unique name for themselves after Utah 2004.

After the MWC broke their contract with them to participate in the BCS the Liberty Bowl broke off relations with the MWC, despite the MWC finding an undefeated WAC champion to fill thier spot.

Rather than breaking these ties the Liberty Bowl should have restructured their contract to have the C-USA champion face their choice of the MWC or WAC champion, with the understanding that if any of the three went to the BCS the Liberty Bowl would still have two conference champions.

remember when we sent a couple of teams to the liberty bowl for a few years.

i think utah shutout southern miss 17-0 if my memory serves me right. you don’t mention what acc team we get. something tells me it will be 6 or 7th placed team. not much difference between 4 – 8 th place team in acc. it will be a four or five loss team vs our 2-3 loss team. more exposure to the east coast and south for the monutain west conference. maybe they will pay a little more attention now that they saw utah beat up on 11 or 12 time national championship team (in past years) alabama.

Thanks for that.

I think this will be a good thing for the MWC. If anything, it provides us a chance to beat the BCS.

The fact it’s back east might garner more attention, too.

I think this is a great deal for the MWC.

If a MWC team is to bust the BCS then our 4th place team would go to a bowl game with a payout higher than the Vegas Bowl.

The Veg is a joke.
