What the 16-point spread means
I'm pissed. I'm pissed the spread is so high. I get that TCU is a great team. I get Utah hasn't looked entirely great this season. I get that. What I don't get is how, knowing the history of this rivalry, Vegas can disrespect Utah so badly.
Does anyone recall the last time the Utes were such big underdogs? UCLA 2007? It surely wasn't the Sugar Bowl (though that was ridiculously high, as well).
I guess I see this as more of a slight against Utah than a sign of respect toward TCU. I mean, I was kind of pissed last year when the Utes were underdogs in their own stadium against the Frogs, but this takes disrespect to a whole new level. Seriously. I doubt you'll find one game between the fourth ranked and fourteenth ranked teams that even resembles such a spread.
Maybe I'm getting worked up over nothing and hell, maybe in the end it'll actually help us (Utah seems to play better when everyone writes them off), but I think they've earned a bit more than a 16-point 20-point spread against a team who - regardless of margin - has only won one more game this season.
I guess if anything will be gained from this is that I expect the Utes to easily cover. That means anyone dumb enough to bet against Utah will lose their money. But we'll see.

Wow....
I actually heard from the guys on KALL that the spread went up to 21…..Don’t boil me if I’m wrong though.

It's anywhere from 21-16.
This really is ridiculous.
Whittingham as a double-digit dog is 5-1 (that lone loss was to BYU in 2006, which Utah covered).
I like our odds!

Yeah, covers.com has 20 and 19 at 4 casinos in town.
If I were a betting man I’d be laying heavy money on Utah.

This is insane.
I don’t think Utah has ever been this badly disrespected (well I mean, when they were bad and deserved it).
You know Whittingham is going to use this to fire up the team.

i told you it would never get to 14-15 points. it's gone the other way like i said
tcu has covered four straight and three of them were blowouts. this works for utah in two different ways though. espn has already reported coach whitt is using this to inspire his team and when everybody is pumping you up for the great victory sometimes you fall. i still think tcu will win but it will be close. i took the points. all tcu has to do is win by a fg. the computers are not supposed to care about how large of a victory. only that you beat a ranked team. peace

As I said in the other thread, yes, you were right.
It’s just shocking to me considering the defense Utah is playing and the history between the two teams. As I said, take Utah and the points because there’s no way the Frogs beat us by 20.

point spread
It is bad, but not as surprising since TCU is been getting a lot of attention lately. Seems like you can’t go to a sports website without seeing a article written on the Frogs. They are media darlings right now.

I think TCU wins the game, but laying two+ TDs to a tough Utah team is an impossible sell unless your Frosh QB isn’t as good as advertised.

I agree.
Considering TCU averages 15 points/game against Utah since they joined the MWC, it’s hard to imagine the Frogs covering. I still think you guys win by 10, though.

For my own sake, and for the glory and coffers of the Mountain West, I certainly hope so.
