Hey Jazzy...

This is interesting and I doubt it will happen but in the back of my mind I always hoped that mike sanford would fail at UNLV so he could come back and be offensive coordinator at utah again, because honestly he called a hell of a game back in the day for utah. I’ve always had this in the back of my mind but as the years went on it seems increasingly unlikely at this point that he would be welcomed back or rehired but I honestly think with the coordinator controversy this year and the lack of consistency in the past years why not bring mike back to call the plays? What do you think?

Not going to happen.

Sanford and Whittingham hate each other. Sanford also hates the Utah program. There was a huge falling out when he left and that path can’t be repaved. It’s torn up, burned and filled with shards of glass.

I know Sanford...

didn’t leave on good terms, but I didn’t think it was that bad.

What exactly was it that he did to leave that path so “torn up?”

From what I remember...

With Urban Meyer, there was a falling out in the locker room toward the end of the ’04 season.

Then he essentially lied about the Utah job. Sanford said to the Vegas press he was offered the Utes’ job first but turned it down because he thought UNLV had more potential. It’s not true. The only coach offered the Utah job was Kyle Whittingham. Had Whittingham gone to BYU, Sanford still wasn’t on the radar. Hill knew what had happened during the ‘04 season between he and Meyer and didn’t want any part of him here.

That lie made it seem like Whittingham was our second choice, but also that UNLV was a better program than Utah. Of course, I get talking the Rebels up. That’s his job. But he didn’t have to lie about it.

The second problem came AFTER he took the UNLV job. He tried to poach coaches from the staff during practice as we prepared for the Fiesta Bowl. He was told to leave the program and never look back. I think Sanford intended to coach the Fiesta Bowl, but after actively trying to get some Utah assistants DURING the season and prep for a bowl game, he was pretty much forced out.

The third problem came with the Fiesta Bowl. Sanford was furious he didn’t receive a Fiesta Bowl ring, even though he didn’t coach the team to that win. The ring isn’t given out just for making the Fiesta Bowl. You get it for winning and he wasn’t the OC then. Dan Mullen was. He never got over that.

The fourth problem came in 2007. It’s no secret Sanford wanted to embarrass Kyle Whittingham and Utah football. When he got his chance, he did just that. After the game, he poured salt into the wounds by mocking the Utes’ effort – which is pretty low for a winning team. Whittingham took notice and was extremely upset by the comments, even if they were true. He should have been, they were classless.

That last one might be the hardest division between the two.

With that said, Sanford had some great words for the Utah program in his final press conference today. He said Utah knows how to invest to win at the BCS level and UNLV doesn’t. That their struggles aren’t necessarily coaching, but commitment to a stronger program.

Utah has it, he said, UNLV doesn’t and won’t succeed until they do.

So, maybe he’s getting over his hatred and the division can be healed. I doubt it, but who knows.

what about Florida?? Urban lost one of his coaches, he’d probably welcome back Sanford…i don’t know what Whit’s relationship is with Sanford so I don’t know if he’d come back to Utah,

Sanford burned a lot of bridges at Utah.

Two of those were with Meyer and Whittingham.

Meyer stays in contact with a few select coaches. Whittingham is one of them. Sanford is not. Which is alarming, because both worked together on the spread option long before Meyer ever accepted the Utah job.

Meyer has a long memory

There are two thousand quality coaches that Meyer could make beasts in his program. Why go back to someone you had bad chemistry with? Why tamper with your program, roll dice on it?

Why would you wish that on McBride?

McBride deserves far better talent than Sanford.
