Big 12 Fights to Screw Non BCS teams
Oh this infuriating . . .
Dan Beebe, the Big 12 commissioner who introduced the idea to a shocking lack of national reaction, thinks it would be a grand idea if the bowl requirements for BCS teams would be lowered so that a 6-6 BCS team could take a bowl game spot from a seven-, eight- or even nine-win non-BCS team. Why? So that Baylor could go to the Motor City Bowl, I guess.
It is interesting, though probably only coincidental, that 11 of the 12 Big 12 schools enter this weekend with a chance to become bowl-eligible. (Colorado, not so much). Baylor would have to beat Texas A&M and Texas Tech, Texas A&M would have to beat Texas, and Kansas would have to beat either Texas or Missouri.
In practical terms as opposed to wishful thinking, the best the conference could do is nine (Texas isn't losing to either A&M or Kansas). But Beebe's proposal, which is essentially No Child Born of Rich Parents Left Behind, would see to it that in such a development, none of his teams would have to worry about being aced out because Nevada went 9-3.
See story here.

The bowl system as is is ridiculous.
I think any team that is 6-6 should be left out of the bowl picture.
But this isn’t a surprise. The Big 12 is probably the most dickish conference outside of the SEC.

What is funny about this is that in the past 5 years it has affected a grand total of 1 Big 12 team.
I think Kansas in 2001 or something had 6 wins and the Big 12 had filled all of its bowl spots so the bowls couldn’t take them as an at-large and had to take a 7-5 CMU team or something like that. I don’t remember the specifics, but it has almost never happened.

Here's the link from MWC connection a few days ago:
I was wrong about most of it. Kansas was the only Big 12 team affected, but it was three years ago, not 2001.
I also love his argument that teams that play 5 teams ranked in the top 25 but are 6-6 should get to go. And what if they play only one or two teams ranked in the top 25 (Big 12 currently has Texas at #3 and Oklahoma State at #12)? Then I guess they should be left home in favor of more-deserving teams from the Sun Belt?

i hope colorado beat's okie state tonight
i don’t want to here any talk of tcu playing okie state. that would be the worst case scenario bowl. for tcu. did you catch the pregame to osu/cu game craig james said if there was one team you would not want to play it would tcu. this coming from the man who is extremely anti non aq bcs school man. he puts boise state on his poll around 10th every week. maybe he does have tcu high but for any other non aq bcs school he does not like to put them high in polls. probably still pissed that smu got the ncaa death penalty after he played there. espn sure like’s tcu and let’s keep it that way. dan beebe is part of the trilateral commission of aq bcs schools. add jim delaney and john swooford. the three biggest obstacle’s to a playoff.

They should have
Colorado should have won, but they provided instead even more evidence of their need for a different coach.
That guy Hawkins is so shell-shocked, he couldn’t make the right call if someone else did it for him.

you know why this came up this year
because beebe thinks okie will beat okie state and leave the big 12 with only 1 bcs bowl bid. i guess t. boone pickens can’t distribute some of his money to all most of the big 12 teams. okie state probably would not be invited at 10-2 either. they really don’t have any tradition and their best player dez bryant was suspended by ncaa.

plus they missed two fg's
can you imagine if tcu played okie state without zac robinson. they would crush them with or without him. have you heard the rumor that dennis franchione might become the new unlv football coach. plaese tell me unlv is not that dumb. the guy was caught with his internet page discussing texas a&m injuries to people who were paying 2000 to his site. unlv can not be that dumb can they?

A. Six more weeks of bad football.
Q. What can UNLV do to prevent a Nevada win?
A. Wait until next year!

A. The rest of the team will have to get dressed by themselves.
Q. What’s the difference between Mike Sanford and God?
A. God doesn’t think he’s Mike Sanford.

funny post
suge knight played defensive end for unlv in the early nineties. he went on to run death row records and once hung rob van winkle(vanilla ice)allegedly off a balcony until he signed over his royalties to ice ice baby.
