This is a legitimate possibility?
Jazzy, is this really the case, if so thats awesome I just heard gameday is at airforce this week for the army game, honestly its easy to see all of the benefits the utes have gained for the non bcs conferences over the past 5 years really come to fruition this year, with tcu and boise getting respect unheard of in years past and with houston, utah, byu, tcu, and boise all in the top 25 people have really taken notice unlike ever before I just hope our bcs reps this year can lend more credibility by knocking another team off.

Here is a more credible link.
From an ESPN site rather than a Utah message board.
Same primary source.
Oh, and not just the third time this season, but the third week in a row. Has any conference ever has ESPN Gameday three weeks in a row?
Who has the better ESPN deal now WAC fans?

It's pretty remarkable...
Especially when this is supposed to be a down year for the MWC! lol
Thanks for the link. I’ll edit to add it.

ESPN..
I remember when they showed TCU highlights on ESPN they were making fun of TCU for all the empty seats in the stadium. But maybe having Gameday there can get their fans more pumped up and actually go to the game, if the stadium is not jam packed for the utah game i’d be surprised. This would be good for TCU but also good for the conference.

TCU is really struggling in the attendance department.
Because of this, I don’t expect a sellout. Maybe 35,000…but certainly not 45,000.

My understanding (admittedly from message board frogs)
is that the game is only about 1,000 tickets short of a sell out right now. If Gameday is coming, they’ll be sold out.

I heard the audio and it sounds like its a done deal.
If Penn State takes care of business at home, then GameDay is taking its third trip to the MWC this season. Wow!

I’ve heard the argument that this is a sure sign that Boise will join the MWC within the next few years, and that ESPN is maneuvering to get the MWC back in the fold, so to speak.
I certainly can’t see this happening even two years ago, but perhaps this has more to do with the skill in the conference than anything else…who knows.

I don’t think I explained my claim well enough.
The argument is that if Boise joins the MWC, than the WAC will be the worst conference in college football (by a long shot) and that the MWC will most likely be awarded the BCS AQ spot, or the BCS will be done away with all together. ESPN is trying to get in position to capitalize on the changing landscape.

when the paradigm shifts everybody starts at zero. my professor used to always tell me this
your right about espn. they are smart and see a changing landscape. in fact they may be the main motivation behind it.

The WAC without Boise State is still probably better than the MAC

Yeah. It'd be a similar conference as the MAC and still better than the Sun Belt...
Unless another team – say LA Tech or Hawaii or Nevada – rise up and take BSU’s spot.
Notice I left out Fresno. That’s because, under Hill, I don’t see them winning with the consistency necessary to put up 10-11-12 win seasons on average.

If BSU leaves, someone from the WAC will rise up. I bet Fresno State would become their power (not a strong power though)

Does teh MWC . . .
. . .have academic standards a school must meet? Does BSU meet those standards? If tehy had ot meet them, would tehy field as good of a team year in and yearout?
I wonder.
by MeanBobMean on Nov 5, 2009 11:33 AM MST up reply actions 0 recs
I think there are some standards...
But how much better academically is BSU compared to say, UNLV?
by JazzyUte on Nov 5, 2009 3:33 PM MST up reply actions 0 recs
Any standards the MWC has could be changed
By a majority vote by the same people who would be deciding if they should accept Boise State.

Could history repeat?
I know it’s a long shot but I had to mention it nonetheless. What if history repeats and TCU stumbles before the finish line to the BCS. Long ago the Frogs started off 10-0 and doning everything right, then they decided to showcase their tallent on national TV and got blown out by a 7-3 Southern Miss team. I’m just saying, maybe there’s a shot that Utah will step up it’s game.

I think I am the only one who likes our chances.
I feel like I’m paddling upstream here.

I'm with you Jazzy
We have played OK down there and if they come in mentally thinking about how they struggle with us, it could help.
Also, we’re the best team they will play all year (and as I noted previously we match up decently with them talent-wise) so the rest of the season is not a reflection of what the game will be like.
Let’s not overlook NM and then we shall see what happens next week.

You and Hockey are right. Let's not put the cart before the horse...
But it’s hard to not look beyond this game. I did the same last year as we were taking on the Lobos prior to TCU (and we almost lost!). Yikes.
by JazzyUte on Nov 6, 2009 12:20 PM MST up reply actions 0 recs
Reet, but this year . . .
. . .the lobos suck and are poorly coached. last year they were simply underperforming but could still get it on with Rocky’s defense.
by MeanBobMean on Nov 6, 2009 12:37 PM MST up reply actions 0 recs
And it was on the road.
This is at home. I don’t think we lose. I just want a complete effort!
With that said, I’m excited for TCU. I love big games and this kinda reminds me of the Sugar Bowl – a lot of people suggesting Utah stands no chance.

Seconded. I think we play better as the underdog.
5-1 vs. TCU
Lets just get past NM without a hiccup and build some confidence for the offense.
Our D matches up really well with their O, and minus any illegal pick plays, I think it comes down to the wire like last year.

Yes
I think it could be another nail biter. If it stays close do they fold up shop mentally while theUtes think “Geez, we’ve seen this close game thing before the last couple years . . .”?
by MeanBobMean on Nov 6, 2009 12:38 PM MST up reply actions 0 recs
It's possible.
You’ve got to think we’re in their heads.
I mean, Whittingham owns Patterson thus far. 3-1. That’s a remarkable record against a team that has arguably been better than Utah overall since joining the conference.

Just saying...
How does the Iowa loss change this picture?

Because they're not undefeated?
Who knows. The game did lose some luster.

Hmmmm
What are they gonna cover now that Iowa is no longer in the NCG question…?
BCS Bust implication game?
Or BCS Bowl implication game?
Does the fact they’ve already done TCU this year play a factor?

I don't know...
Also, the MWC hosted GameDay this week, too.
We’ll see.
