Utes to Vegas to play loser of USC/Arizona game seems likely
More reports out of the Mountain West offices today suggest Utah will play the loser of this weekend's Arizona/USC game.
So, unless the Wildcats go into Los Angeles and pull out a surprising win, it's looking like we're facing them in the MAACO Bowl.
We'll see how this develops, but I think I'd rather see Utah in the Poinsettia Bowl taking on the likes of Oregon State than playing an Arizona team who, even though they've done some things recently, still aren't a big name.
What're your thoughts?

Go Arizona!
Utah vs USC would be a great matchup and storyline
2 BCS winning teams from last season are rebuilding with good young talent
2 True freshman quarterbacks
I would love this

I agree.
I’m wanting USC. I just don’t see Arizona winning.
BYU will play the winner of this game, it looks like.
I think David Locke is confused...
And led me to being confused. He said the winner goes to the Poinsettia, loser to Vegas. But I think he got the Poinsettia and Holiday Bowls mixed up.
Locke being confused about college football wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest.

Oregon State though . . .
Is becoming a nice rival for us. Plus, we go after many of the same kids, good chance to recruit.
Good storyline after last year.
I think they’d be toughest of three for us.
I think we're a near-lock for Vegas.
I’d rather face Oregon State than Arizona because they’re ranked (and most likely will still be ranked if they lose Saturday).
Nitpick
They play Oregon in the Civil War on Thursday.

Please, please please not USC. I was attending USC for grad school when the two teams met up in Vegas and that ruined bowl week for me. It was like watching two of your kids playing each other in a tennis match.
Oregon St. would draw more national attention and be a tougher game for us, but don’t overlook U of A. They’ve had three losses to very tough teams (including two possible BCS teams in Iowa and Oregon) and their fourth loss was due solely to one of the flukiest pick-sixes that has ever occurred. The Wildcats would be a good opponent.

The other option is BYU
They are sick of Vegas . . . or so they say. TCU is going to a BCS bowl. So all things considered, Utah is probably the best option.
As Ute in DC said...
Both parties are sick of having the Cougars play in Vegas. They’ve been there every year since 2005 and they want a new venue.
If the Cougars don’t go, it’s Utah’s spot.
if anybody saw the usc /ucla game it was pathetic
while at least the utah/byu game was exciting at the end. usc has no offense 14 of 28 points were from a pick six and another turnover near the 20 yard line. they got a lucky ref call at the end to put in there own scrub td so they only scored one offensive td. it would be a defensive battle in the vegas bowl. usc would not want to be there and they hate the cold and the game does not start until 4:15 pm. it does get cold in the desert by sundown. utah wins by a fg’s 15 -7.

pac ten 6th goes to poinsettia
the loser of the usc-arizona game goes to the poinsettia bowl aqs the pac ten’s lone 6th palce team, no two ways about it. unless cal loses to washington, then there would be a tie for 5gth and 6th and the vegas bowl would get the first pick. if sc wins they will go to the holiday, if they lose they will play utah in the poinsettia. byu is going to vegas as mt west #2, the mt west #3 goes to poinsettia.
The Vegas bowl has the 5th pick.
Not the 5th-place team. They can pick any eligible (meaning 7-5 unless all the 7-5 teams are taken) PAC 10 team.
Same for the MWC. The Vegas bowl has the first pick of any MWC team not playing in a BCS bowl. Last year they took BYU, even though TCU was #2 behind Utah. They took BYU in 2005 too, even though TCU was #1 and BYU was tied for #2 with CSU.

utah will get usc in sam boyd stadium unless usc can find a way out
they do not want to play on dec 22 at night where it gets cold. usc offense is a joke. they are not even in the top 60 teams in scoring. i would expect utah to win 16-10
