Urban Meyer resigns as Florida's head coach
I know this isn't breaking anymore, but I've been away from the computer and haven't had time to update today's shocking announcement that he will retire due to health concerns.
First and foremost, my thoughts and prayers go out to Meyer and his family. Here's hoping it is nothing too serious and he's able to live a long and productive life - even if off the football field.
Secondly, this impacts Utah because Kyle Whittingham surely will be floated around as a candidate for the job. Whittingham coached along side Meyer here at Utah, followed him after he left for Florida and is a proven winner. Moreover, he is one of Meyer's closest confidants who might back such a move.
Right now, though, we can only speculate. The most major aspect of this story, however, is Meyer's health and hopefully he gets that under control.

Whit will stay put
Whittingham is a great coach, but he’s not for Florida. That job is for the freaks, the real egomaniacs or workaholics who care for nothing but that level of success. Whittingham will take what he can get, but he’s not driven to be that guy.
If he did take the bait and bolt?
Utah’s program is attractive enough now to get a fine coach. Then after Whittingham realizes how god awful the SEC drama circle jerk is he’ll come back and take over for the guy who made his name at Utah and wants ot be the next coach at Michingan or Notre Dame.
Wow.
I was floored when I heard the news. I find it ironic that I was always joking that Meyer must have made a deal with someone to be as successful as he was, and that somewhere along the way karma would eventually go against him….now I feel sorry that I may have been right (except for selling his soul of course).
Let’s not forget though Florida is a gold mine, as far as coaching prestige. Even with no Tebow, no Percy Harvin and so on, Florida will still be a force to be reckoned with in the SEC. While this move further validates Nick Saban and Alabama as the premiere SEC power, I don’t expect too much of a drop off.
As far as the rumors of Kyle Whittingham succeeding him are concerned , I’m not completely convinced that Kyle is the guy they want, There was a lot of things about Meyer and his personality that made him perfect for Florida at the time, and frankly I don’t see the same case with K-Whitt. I just think he’s a west coast guy but more importantly, he’s a Utah man!.
Meyer Quote:
“I have given my heart AND SOUL to coaching” [emphasis added]
Just saying.

It would NEVER EVER happen but....
I would laugh my * off if Bobby Bowden was in the running to succeed him. For obvious reasons however, It’s more likely that Tom Brady would opt out and join the Detiot Lions before we saw old man Bowden in Gator blue.
