Runnin' Utes run by Texas-San Antonio
This is the kind of win Utah needed. Okay, maybe it doesn't fix all their problems. However, it was a winnable game against a bad team and recently, that has slipped the Utes up. Not tonight. In fact, Utah dominated from pretty much start to finish and cruised to the 22-point victory.
What does it ultimately mean? Hard to say. You need to follow these wins up with bigger wins over better teams and create some sustainability and consistency. Maybe then we can get the ball rolling and things will turn around in conference play. And certainly looking at the prospects of the Mountain West this season, they'll need it. Because it looks damn tough.
Next up is a Saturday showdown with LSU on the road. Could be a tough one. Luckily they have another win under their belt, though.

You have to consider something in Utah's last couple losses.
They were playing their last two games without two of their best players in Jay Watkins and David Foster. Foster alone makes the Utes a better defensive team because he is a shot-blocking machine that makes it easier for the guards to play perimeter defense. Jay Watkins is kind of like our Paul Millsap. He comes in off the bench with energy, defense, scoring, athletic ability, high-flying dunks, etc. These two help the Utes to play with more confidence and they are simply better. I think we would have beat Illinois State and Pepperdine if Foster and Watkins were healthy. This team is a lot better than their record would indicate. They have the potential to be very good if they put it all together.
