Oregon State a near-lock for the MAACO Las Vegas Bowl

If Utah is going to Vegas, they won't be playing a California school. It appears Oregon State is now a near-lock for that bowl game.

This might change things a bit. MAACO Bowl officials are still very interested in scheduling the Cougars because they can nearly guarantee a near-capacity crowd. The only problem had been Arizona - who beat BYU in last year's Las Vegas Bowl. Bowl officials did not, and neither did the Cougars, want a rematch of last year's game.

That doesn't appear to be happening this year. So, don't be surprised if it's the Cougars in Vegas playing Oregon State and Utah in San Diego playing either Cal or SC.

We'll see, though!

I would like that matchup too

But this year’s team is just not deserving of a high-tiered bowl. I don’t want to bag on the Utes so I’m not going to elaborate further.

Whether or not Utah is playing the fourth, fifth, or sixth place Pac-10 team will not make much of a difference. I have been a Utah fan long enough to remember being excited that we got to go to the ‘92 Copper Bowl. I like the bowls and I’m glad that the Utes are going to one. I hope we keep the bowl streak going.

I wouldn't call Vegas a high-tiered bowl.

It might be a tiny bit better than Poinsettia because it gets a perceived better Pac-Ten team. However, there isn’t much difference between Cal and Oregon State. The bowl games aren’t different, either. Vegas is on a Tuesday in primetime and the Poinsettia on a Wednesday in primetime.

That was my point.

He said anything besides playing USC would be a disappointment. Because Utah didn’t deserve a high-tiered bowl, I don’t think the Poinsettia is a disappointment. Playing Cal in San Diego is neither better nor worse than playing Oregon State in Las Vegas.

haha, sorry.

I thought you were making a statement that we didn’t deserve the Las Vegas Bowl.

You’re right. We don’t deserve a top-notch bowl this year. We’re not a top-notch team. I do think we deserve a better bowl than we’ll get because we are ranked. However, that’s the life of the non-BCS.

I love how FSU gets to go to the Gator Bowl at 6-6, though. That’s just awesome. Not.
