What game worries you the most?

There are obvious choices in Oregon, TCU and BYU, so let's exclude them from the discussion.

Looking at the schedule what game(s) worry you the most?

If I had to choose, it would be UNLV, CSU and -- I know I might be off on this -- Louisville.

I choose Louisville because they really are an unknown. Is Steve Kragthorpe that bad of a coach or did he just have an extremely rough start? I think the Cardinals have the talent to surprise this year and I'm just thankful the game is in Salt Lake. With that said, I'll concede I don't know much about Louisville, except they have to replace some key components of their offense.

San Jose State is another game that I think might prove difficult, since it's the second week of the season and on the road. Thankfully it's a late-start, which I think benefits Utah as opposed to an early morning West Coast game (think Boise State and SJSU back in 2004).

What games concern you the most?

About half . . .

Our games worry me because they will be out for blood against us and we won’t be as cohesive as we were with Johnson. I think we will whip TCU because they’re strength will be offense, and defense is our strength. They lost their D last year, but he is a great coach.

But I think we should go 10-2, or we could lose a game early, the team will go into a spin and lose to teams with far less talent because we aren’t keeping it together and end up 8-4 or 7-5 and go to the Fred Flinstone Bowl.

Each team is rebuilt every spring and fall and its personality is slightly different. 2004 and 2008 had insane cohesion. Typically, Utah has a history of playing down to other teams and suffering some losses. Playing as a team, as they did last year, overcomes that.

My two biggest ocncerns are UNLV and Louisville. We spanked Louisville at their place on TV after they were a once proud team in a spin. They’d like nothing more than to return the favor. I think Mike Sanford at UNLV is a fine coach and he will have a better team each year.

I think we’ll spank CSU, but that AFA will be better and that the Cowboys and SDSU will be vastly improved.

I am betting our offensive production improves, but is the yardage does not amount to the points. That’s also common at Utah—500+ yards and not enough scoring.

I think if one of the QBs can get it done the O gels behind them? We’ll lose one game or none.

10-2 would be a great season.

I’m hoping no worse than 8-4. 7-5 (8-5) would be hard to digest, but I’d still take it.

With a new QB?

10-2 would be good.

But our D could mean the difference in our games again this year.

New Mexico always worries me.

As I mentioned below...

With New Mexico bringing in a new coach, it’ll be interesting to see if their solid play against Utah continues. Is it mental or was it something with the coaching staff? If it’s the coaching staff, then I’m not so sure New Mexico remains a thorn in Utah’s side.

San Diego St.

Rocky Long now runs their defense and his defense gives Utah fits. With a new head coach their offense might have a little more life. Add in that it is sandwiched between the BYU and TCU games, and I think it has trap game written all over it.

It'll be interesting to see how that translates to SDSU.

It’s very probable the success he saw at New Mexico as a head coach doesn’t transfer to SDSU. I mean, Bronco was their DC during the losses in 2000 and 2002 (which doomed McBride). When he went to BYU, the defensive success did not follow.

I think the same could be said about New Mexico. New coach, new system, so will they give Utah fits?

Thankfully, both games are at home.

Brady Hoke

Their head coach is very highly thought of. Like Meyer and Whit, he coaches the kids new school: molds talent.

They in recruit central down there. This year, no worry, 4 years from now? Could be ugly if he can overcome the SDSU “snakebit and can’t ever win” head case mentality of that team.

Lots of scary games.

Obviously Oregon, TCU and BYU are all scary. I always dread the Air Force game and the ensuing injuries. New Mexico normally worries me, and now SDSU with Rocky as their DC. New Coaches worry me, so add Wyoming to the list. Louisville worries me too, although I think we should be able to handle their talent and they’ll be replacing a lot of pieces. SJSU doesn’t worry me, nor does UNLV or USU. Those three are pretty much the only ones I’m comfortable about. The other 9 games make me nervous.

Everyone hates a pink-shirt-wearing communist.

trust me

you have nothing to worry about from louisville. we’re a two win team at best, have no quarterback, no kicker, no offensive line, and no defense. you’ll put up 50+ on us.

Ha! Ya never know...

Maybe I’m just still not sure Louisville is dead yet. They’re still only three seasons removed from the best season in school history. So that’s got to count for something, right?
