Wynn gets the nod

via www.ksl.com

It didn't seem like this would be the case a week ago, but it appears Wynn is the number one quarterback at the time.

Following Wynn on the depth chart is Terrance Cain, who was generally regarded as the second-best quarterback entering camp - just not behind Wynn. The pre-camp favorite, Corbin Louks, seems to be the odd man out.

That doesn't mean Louks won't see significant time this season, it just means he probably won't land the starting role this season. And with how poorly he performed this camp, that shouldn't be a surprise.

So the depth chart puts Wynn at the top, Cain in the middle and leaves Louks stuck on the outside looking in. The chart isn't final, but I expect Wynn to be the starter for Utah State.

Wynn

I saw wynn in the spring game, and thought he just might pull it off – he was fantastic, relative to expectations anyway… I am not surprised… this kids got guns… he can throw the deep ball like alex. In a 1280thezone interview, he was cool and calm and I liked listening to him… whereas louks… who I like as a changeup guy… is kind of obnoxious with his whole "it’s my team" type attitude. I hope cain can get into the game somehow, he seemed smart, and knew when to run with the ball…

Wynn did mention that when he runs, he’s running to the sideline… hopefully he’ll get the courage, and opportunity, to run downfield from time to time.. he runs a 4.8 forty… not too shabby, compared to Brian Johnson anyway…

With the Oline the Utes have coming back, I think Wynn could do well enough this first season to not be a risk… especially with Asiata.

I like the fact Wynn’s got 4 years… but with this year’s defense, Asiata, receivers, and Oline, this may just be our year… How sweet would it be to with the NC on the Y’s 25year anniversary!

Good write up and thanks.

I’m cautiously optimistic about this. Obviously the coaches like Wynn and that’s saying something.

The good news is that if Wynn does turn out to be an awesome quarterback, we’ll have the best four year (five counting ‘08) stretch in program history. Well that is if he doesn’t leave early.

I trust our coaching staff.

I think ultimately if they feel Wynn is our man, it will be the right decision.

I’m with isnow1, Louks attitude has been all wrong. While the other two were fighting as hard as the could to impress the coaches and up their game, Louks acted like he didn’t need to. There’s a fine line between being confident and being OVERconfident, and I think Louks overstepped it a bit. It will be interesting to see if he decides to transfer.

I like Wynn — I think he’s got a very level head. I’m impressed that he loaded his class schedule during his senior year of high school, just so he could make it to spring ball. That tells me that he is a guy who knows what he wants, and he’s willing to put forth whatever effort is necessary to get it. I think the coaches might be just as impressed with his maturity as they are with his arm.

I had a feeling this could happen...

I’ve just had the feeling since the last few weeks of last season that the coaches weren’t very impressed with Louks.

Wynn has done everything asked of him, the weight he put on this off-season was huge. He may have a short leash though, and I think the QB situation for this season if far from over. I fully expect to see all 3 of them get some playing time at some point. That is if Louks sticks around. He’s been talking like it’s his job to lose. Now that he has lost it, how upset will he be about it. I guess we shall see.

Wow

Well, they said it was a possibility, but I thought Whittingham was too conservative to go with a freshman. The coach impresses me more all the time, if he likes the kid, I love him.

Hats off to the staff, hopefully this means that Wynn is that good, heard great stuff about his arm.

Please don’t let him be demolished . . . .
