Fall camp day ? links

I am totally lost on what day of camp it is. How sad is that?

Anyway, the big news yesterday was the confirmation of Koa Misi's injury, which looks worse than I first thought. Hopefully he'll be good to go against the Aggies and I actually think he will, but with no details being released on the extent of the injury, we just don't know.

Beyond that, though, it seems Terrance Cain might be making his move on Jordan Wynn. But we probably won't have a starter named until the week of the USU game.

Who do you think will start?

Cain will win the job.

I just think he’s a better fit for the spread than Wynn is. It also sounds like he’s a little more consistent.

Love the O-Line Story

Very heartening. I always had more faith in the D, but with an O-line good enough to buy us time, our QB and receivers can get a feel for each other and become good enough to win it all.

More I think about it. . .

More i trust our defensive line, Misi or no.

I thought losing Kruger was too painful, then James Aiono never even made it to camp, now this. Yet Whittingham, in expressing his concern, expressed it not for the team but for one of his players. I think that means that the D coaching master, and he is a master genius is overused in this sport, knows he has enough talented guys that he can win with.

Last year we lost 5 guys on the D-line. Five.

How did we turn out? Theone thing I don’t like is the depth is less experienced than we’ve had. So while some strong camps were obvious, these guys are inexperienced college game wise.

Then again, if you have ot play a quality but inexperienced guy, would you rather have him at D-Line or:

QB, WR, RB, DB, LB, O-line?

I mean, really, D lIne is the best place to start a guy who is capable but inexperienced. Worst comes to wors you give them discrete but achievable goals like “just crumple that guy low so he can’t go forward” and pile up their running game.

I'm not looking for the nearest cliff

to jump off of, but the pieces we lost last year were far less significant than losing Misi and Kruger this year.

Of course, losing both of our projected starters at DT for most of the season, and a key backup (Tonga) being virtually invisible was no small thing, but we still had two NFL-caliber ends around them.

I think Misi will miss no more than two games.

IF that.

The defense should still be solid, though. Maybe not as fierce as I thought back in January before Kruger and Smith bolted, but I’m optimistic.

Moreover, as MeanBobMean said, the o-line being so good will certainly impact the progress of the offense and allow for more leeway.

I’m just excited to see it all come together!

Yes

I mean, I really, really wanted Smith and Kruger back, think of their physical play and leaderhsip this year, wow.

But, we improve our talent annually. The good news is we have players of a caliber that they can bolt for the NFL early. The bad news is they do, especially after a season like the last one, opportunism is a powerful sell in an inconsistent program like ours.

That said, I believe in our coaches and their ability not only to recruit, but to develop talent. Coach Sitake is intense, I think he’s going to be a good one. TCU and BYU replaced as much, or more, than did we, and BYU has not been reporting good things outta camp.

I think the TCU game decides it all, and I think we win at least 10 this year.

The Zane Taylor article is terrific.

He sounds like a heck of a guy. And, he is a HELL of a football player.

Just an average guy with exceptional hair. Nothing more, nothing less.

starting QB

Manis #18 Will be back in the mix soon.

Nope

He believes he has a shot at being a good linebacker. If we lost guys ot injuries and needed more QBs, we’d likely look to Christopher.
