Utes win, Asiata out for season

It was nearly the perfect game and maybe that's exactly what the problem was, since the Utes lost their starting RB for the season. Matt Asiata tore an ACL in Utah's win over Louisville, but it didn't seem to impact the Utes too much, as they rolled the Cardinals and improved to 3-1 on the season.

Losing Asiata sucks. But this was a good game and hopefully they can overcome his loss.

I'll have more on the game later, obviously, but it's a shame this injury puts a damper over the Utes' impressive win.

Bonus

With Oregon embarrassing #6 Cal, the Utes are looking to be in a lot better shape. They certainly looked like they were comfortable tonight. Definitely a bummer about Asiata. He was killing it in the first quarter.

Anyone else remember when Keith Van Horn graduated and Everyone thought he was Utah BB?

Sometimes when a teams star is removed from the picture it makes everyone else pick it up to make up the difference.

Well I think our season is not tied to Asiata.

I mean, he sat out all but a quarter of the 2007 season and that didn’t go too badly (especially once we got Johnson back).

It’s going to hurt, but I think we have the talent at running back (when healthy) to transition into a solid team regardless. Obviously, though, I’d feel better if he weren’t injured. But you know how that goes.

Good weekend

TCU won to keep their BCS hopes alive, Oregon made our ugly loss look not as bad as their D shut down a talented Cal offense. Florida State got killed making BYU’s loss look bad. Utah looked solid in the 1st half, we have yet to play a complete game but we are getting close to it.
