The Morning Blitz: Daily Utah links - victory edition

The Utes ran their winning streak to 15 games with a solid, though rather boring, 35-17 victory over rival Utah State.

For an opening game with so much change on offense, you can't really expect much better. The Utes played well and once the defense settled down, it looked like what we'd expect from a Utah-USU game - lopsided in the Utes' favor.

So Utah runs their record to 1-0 and will now start preparing for San Jose State. That should be a big game.

Typical opening game

I feel pretty much the same way about the game. It reminded me alot of last year’s Michigan game, alot of sloppy play and inability to convert yards into touchdowns, but it showed the great potential of the team.

I was happily surprised with how well the team moved the ball. That’s a good sign because the team can iron out the mistakes like the fumbles and poor goaline play, but that’s much better in a first game than seeing an offense that looks inept.

It’s a great first game as far as motivating the team from here on. If the Utes had not had any turnovers and blasted USU by 50, then the team might not be as motivated to strive for improvement. Instead, just like last year, the first game gives the team confidence in their abilities and potential, but also helps the players realize the need to work hard to eliminate mistakes.

I think Utah NEEDED to have a game like this to provide focus for what could be a very tough challenge in San Jose. People who don’t think so should consider that SJSU beat New Mexico in the NM bowl in 2006 and also only lost to Boise State by 3 at home. That was the same Boise team that blasted Utah in SLC and beat OK in the Fiesta. This year’s SJSU team is predicted to be better than the 2006 team.

Exactly

Focus, get your heads on.

I happy with the game because there were too many off field distractions and it seems we rose enough above those to win. We do have more talent than in 2005, that’s for sure.
