The Morning Blitz: Daily Utah Links
The Utes have officially become yesterday's news. With BYU's win over Oklahoma, they've faded back into the shadows of their rival and most likely will stay there until the Cougars trip up (if that happens at all). As a Ute fan, this is hard to take, but it's not a surprise. The Cougars faced a similar situation last year after their defeat to TCU.
How much will this impact Utah's season? Will they play better knowing they're now a distant fourth behind TCU, Boise State and BYU when it comes to the BCS and, gulp, a potential national championship game berth? Hard to say, but the Utes clearly will be flying under the radar for a few weeks - especially if the Cougars get by Florida State and then TCU.

I don't mind the underdog role
Cmon we are utah fans we are used to not getting as much attention as we should
Agreed
This BYU team though looked far tougher than what we saw last year—leaner and better conditioned. Great job Coach Mendenhall!
Of course, people will say they beat an OU team which, had their O line woes been known would never have been rated #3.
But the pressure on BYU was immense and they handled it, scored when they had to, they should be tough all year. All that said, yeah, I prefer underdog and if we both keep winning, their quality will reflect on us and we’ll both move up. TCU’s OOC games are crucial—if they win those the voters will move our conference up.
How about that ACC OOC game slate this week?
It's hard to be happy for BYU,but...
Wins like BYU over OK are huge for gaining that auto bid in a few years. Even before the decision about the BCS, any games that show the strength of our conference helps our recruiting b/c that’s one of the major strikes against us.

BYU's win
I’m thrilled to see BYU, CSU and others win in their non conference games…especially against BCS opponents. BYU deserves all the credit in the world for winning, whether Bradford was in or not. BYU stood up to OK’s vaunted defense and won.
Utah will, as noted, fly under the radar for awhile. I’m sure if BYU beats Fl. State, and TCU manhandles their other ACC foes Virginia and Clemson, that the Y and TCU will be the talk of all the pundits. However, all the Utes need do is continue to win…and show well especially AT Oregon (not an easy game despite what Boise did) and against Louisville, the MWC and Utah could be headed to the Nat’l Championship game should it come down to BYU and Utah, undefeated and playing for it all at the end of the season. I think the Utes can do it, but there’s a lot of very difficult games this year…IN CONFERENCE!
