Whittingham Vols' top choice?

UPDATE: I have lowered us to Defcon 4 as there is now some serious speculation that the Vols will hire Dave Cutcliffe. Keep fingers crossed, people!

Rumors are circulating that Tennessee has contacted Kyle Whittingham about their coaching vacancy. Unfortunately, that's all we've heard. However, it appears they have only contacted and are interested in two candidates: Whittingham & David Cutcliffe, who was their OC under Phil Fulmer for good number of years between his coaching stints at Ole Miss and Duke.

Obviously this is nothing but speculation. But we'll see what comes of it.

likely no higher than a #3 option at the moment.

Lovie Smith and Cutcliffe are the two names making the rounds in Knoxville right now. Give it an hour and we’ll have two new names, though.

Psychiatrists would be making a killing in this town right now.

Go with either and leave Whitt alone.

JUST LEAVE HIM ALONE! HE’S A HORRIBLE COACH! HE’LL LOSE TO VANDY EVERY YEAR HE’S THERE.

I’m serial.

heh.

I’m a big MWC fan, too. People like him and Calhoun as candidates make it tough on me.

Ummm

Then why did Air Force’s Troy Calhoun not take the job?

Nooo

Unfortunately one of the bad things is that Whit get a heck of a lot exposure from the Sugar Bowl game, Tennessee could care less about Utah Football but they know Whit led them to a Sugar Bowl win over a SEC team…I really hope we don’t lose Whitt, everyone cross your fingers

Um, so, yeah, Cutcliffe is staying at Duke.

Everyone should freak the geek out!

I heard on the radio

That Coach Whit was offered the job and he turned it down. The Vols then went with Louisiana Tech coach Derek Dooley.

i knew coach whitt was loyal

the sec won’t be a power house next year. they were 1 bad fg kicker away(the guy missed 4 fg’s in the game) for the sec to have gone 5-5 in their bowl games. florida loses 60% of their starters and bama loses three of their best defensive players. many sec qb’s are gone too. the mwc is on the rise. coach whitt is loyal and see’s we have an opportunity to go undefeated and with the three aq bcs teams on our schedule along with a highly ranked tcu we would be very highly ranked ourselves. along with coach calhoun who i said would be loyal we have a solid conference. air force is on the rise too and i can see them winning ten game’s next year. tennessee got their coach. some guy name dooley.

i'm all about covering the spread and moneylines. i was building a house, i don't deserve this, deserves have nothing to do with it. bang. "unforgiven"

Nope

He is too smart totake that job at this point in time. He’s also smart enough to know his limitations: he is not a SEC guy.
