Around SBN: Champions League Preview with Jimmy Conrad

Whittingham announced in his weekly press conference that Utah should have Blechen, Christopher and Manis for Saturday's game. All three either missed the AFA game or were injured during it.

Great news!

I hope they're 100%, or really close to it

I keep accidentally eating my pets. Maybe I should get something less appetizing, like a cat instead of a Twinkie.

Kyle wouldn't put them at risk...

They have to be close… too much depth for him to risk anyone..

We aren’t SJSU. ;-p

I'm more worried about effectiveness than further injury

They risk injury every game. I hope to see Christopher, Blechen and Manis playing like they always do rather than being somewhat hampered by lingering effects of their injuries.

Any good coach will tell you..

Performance is inverse to injury risk. So essentially they are one in the same.

That’s where the whole controversy arises from players getting more injured at half speed if they play soft not to injure the other guy…

I like this part of the story.
Whittingham said the offense would be opened up after the Utes’ conservative gameplan on Saturday, which was designed to work the clock as much as possible and keep Air Force’s offense off the field.

“Jordan will have the entire offense at his disposal and some new wrinkles thrown in, as we do every week

I might just be fishing...

but maybe this is part of the reason the AFA game was so close. The Utes didn’t want to show their hand a week before their biggest game. I think the game plan was conservative for the reasons Whit listed, but also because they knew they could probably beat AFA without pulling out all the stops on offense. I expect them to open up the play book on Saturday. Can’t wait!!

I think it was a large part. We weren't playing our normal game plan.

It is important to control the clock when playing AF.

We had to change up the game plan to do that because AF will control the clock if you don’t. I was wondering what we would do about this going into AF because while our team is good at scoring fast we have not controlled Time of Possession.
