Utes 15th in the polls

SALT LAKE CITY UT - NOVEMBER 6: Quarterback Jordan Wynn #3 of the Utah Utes looks to throw a pass in a game against the TCU Horned Frogs during the second half of an NCAA Football game November 6 2010 at Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City Utah. TCU Beat Utah 47-7. (Photo by George Frey/Getty Images)

A ten-point drop. Not bad. Could've been worse. Certainly sets up for a high ranking if Utah should win out (and there is no excuse not to). Let's put this loss behind us and prepare for Notre Dame. Utah still has three big games left on their schedule they should and must win.

15tth

I agree, was pleasantly surprised at the rating!! Time to move on, just hope we aren’t the paper tiger!! Next week will tell that for sure!!! Go UTE’s!!!!!!

Honestly...

higher than they probably should be and where I expected and after seeing what they did yesterday.

I expected them to come in around 20th. I’ll take it.

I was expecting a couple of places higher

I knew that Utah was overrated at 5, but maybe a little underrated at 15. Win out the season, and we’ll be in the top 10, which I think is just about right.

Beating Notre Dame will be worth more than beating BYU to the voters of the AP and ESPN.

Anyways, a top 10 rating will help in recruiting entering the Pac-12.

Three teams I despise: Georgetown Hoyas, BYU Cretins, and the New York Yankees.

What I expected

I expected 12-16 given all the turmoil in the top 10 yesterday. Fifteen isn’t bad and we could be top 10 by the end of the season. But I’m not worried about that. I’m concerned about winning the next three and absolutely crushing our bowl opponent. I, for one, was all too caught up in rankings until yesterday. I won’t quit on my Utes.

I just hope any recruits attending the game yesterday are smart enough to see past the one terrible home game in over three years, even if it was the worst since the early 90’s!

Winning out will win them back, along with many of the fans that were looking for the nearest cliff yesterday. Some of those fair-weather fans can go find another team or dedicate themselves to the Utes. It’s gut-check time for coaches, players and fans.

I was figuring 18th

So this is better than expected. I was really hoping to go avoid playing a PAC-10(12) team in our bowl and head into PAC-12 play on a bed of Roses (or orange peels, or chips, or on a sugar high) Oh well. Regardless of where we end the season it will be higher than a certain TDS.

Wow. I was afraid we may not even be top 20.

So I’m quite pleased with top 15.

SDSU will be tough

SDSU has struggled three weeks in a row to beat the three worst MWC teams.

It’ll be tough to an extent, but the Aztecs aren’t a very good team.

I’d be more inclined to fear them if they weren’t beating UNM, Wyoming and CSU by an average of about 10 points.

I’ll help that SDSU will either be beaten down or possibly overconfident coming out of their game with TCU.

This would say we can get back into the top 10...

…if we win out.

If you had told me before the season started that we would finish in the top 10 to finish the year, I’d be extremely happy.

Hard to think about that right now though.

Around what I expected

But I’m a little disappointed about being 5 spots behind Michigan State. Hopefully a decisive victory over Notre Dame, the team they beat in OT with a fake field goal, will change that. They took a beating to a #18 Iowa team, and our beating was to a #3 (only 5 pts in the ap away from #2) TCU team, so hopefully as the season plays out we can keep movin’ up. At this point now I’m not too worried about the rankings, just winning out.

We have no room to complain

Even though I gave major props to TCU’s defense for smoking us, we have no place to say we should be ranked higher than anyone until we prove we are better than the way the Utes played on Saturday.

Oh, and to any cougar fans who wish to rub this in our noses I have two words to say: Utah State

Fear the MUSS!!

Agreed

When we were ranked in top 10 there was really nothing to vindicate it, there is nothing to vindicate us being a top 15 team. We have to prove it by winning our last couple games than I’ll say we deserve it.

Motivation for the BYU game is now to beat BYU

What is up with Cougar fans coming out of the woodworks this past week?

Wait until the Holy War to talk Cougars. There is no room to talk with a 4-5 record.

Our motivation for beating BYU this year is no longer to get into a BCS conference. Our motivation for beating BYU is now to beat BYU. They are now the target, rather than some game in January that we now no longer care about. All we care about now is crushing whoever is left on the schedule, and I think Utah players will be able to get up for each game now that we have less to lose.

It’s now all about winning the next game. Be afraid Irish, Aztecs, and Cougars. You just became our endgame.

Moving On

We will bounce back next week against ND. Still have faith in Wynn and am looking forward to great things coming from him for the next 2 years. Keep your heads up team! We are still here supporting you!

Agreed

Watching that game was pure torture, but I’m still feeling good about the season. I still think Jordan Wynn is a stud. I don’t think Joe Montana could have won that game. The team played flat and they were overmatched by a national championship level team. I’m looking forward to the next 3 weeks of football, especially watching them on NBC this Saturday. Go Utes! We love you guys.

I Had Two Possibilites

If the voters actually watched the TCU game AND our previous games, they would have seen that Utah just didn’t play up to the level they usually have this season. They’d say Utah just had a bad game that was compounded with TCU playing the best game they have so far. They’d fairly penalize Utah because they still played poorly, dropping us to the #10 – #15 range.

If they didn’t actually watch any games and just looked at the score, then they’d say Utah was just a poseur that was exposed and drop us to the #15 – #20 range.

Looks like it was a mix of the two.

I thought it was going to be much worse

Although at this point, I’m over being worried about poll position and more about the Utes kicking some ass from here on out and let the chips fall where they may.

15th is great - Better than expected

But still ensures that ND and SDSU take us very seriously. Let’s win out, finish 12-1, and hope that TCU wins the national championship. They certainly are good enough to beat anyone with how they played on Saturday. If Auburn loses between now and the end of the season, it looks like a distinct possibility.
