Vanderbilt? makes offer to Whittingham - he wisely rejects it
This is funny.
On Monday, Nashville radio station The Zone reported Vanderbilt made an unsuccessful overture to Whittingham to replace Robbie Caldwell, who resigned under pressure after going 2-10 in his first season as head coach of the Commodores.
Nothin' like shooting for the stars, but really - Vanderbilt? Can't fault them for trying.
I hear their next candidate will be Bill Belichick of the New England Patriots.

OH WOW
“Nothin’ like shooting for the stars, but really – Vanderbilt? Can’t fault them for trying.”
Exactly, why not? But why on earth would he go there? What’d they offer him millions?! lol
Nothing against Vandy but I think Provo State has a better chance of stealing him from the U of U! I wonder how many other recockulous offers he’s received.
|_| of |_| - The Classless University! (_) of (_) - We throw beeer on your family, especially if you're a Provo State Pussy Cat. Man I wish Maxi-Pad's family would've given my 40 back, that was a buzz-kill!
That's just it...
Vandy isn’t even a good SEC team. They haven’t been good in years. This is a program that considers a 7-6 season one of the best in recent history.
While that might suggest it’s easy to satisfy the fans there, it also suggests it’s nearly impossible to win And that coach who went 7-6? Well he coached at Vandy for eight seasons and failed to record another winning record while there. Worse, they’ve gone 4-20 in the last two years.
Certainly not the cream of the crop of the SEC. Or even middle of the road SEC program (like the Miss. schools and Kentucky).
Yeah, Utah has played its last MWC game and is Pac-12 now.
Vandy would definitely be a step down. I’m not sure why they even bothered asking. If Tennessee couldn’t land Whittingham, I’m at a loss to figure out what Vandy thought they had to offer.
FYI
Vandy has NOT offered anyone, let alone Whittingham, the job. This same clown on the radio claimed Vandy was going to announce in 48 hours that Navy OC Ivin Jasper as head coach. That was two saturdays ago.
They are interested but I can assure you they have not made an offer. Whether or not he has any interest, I can’t speak to that.
But that radio report is hilariously false.
To go further
I don’t think Vandy would have offered unless they had some indication that he was serious. Which I wouldn’t suspect to be the case, all things considered.
As far as the radio report, it was mentioned somewhere that someone from Vandy spoke briefly with Ty WILLINGHAM who is like some assistant women’s golf coach at Stanford. He said he wasn’t interested in making a return to football.
In all seriousness and likelihood, I wouldn’t be surprised if George Plaster (the guy on the radio station) simply confused the names. He’s grasping at straws because Vandy is doing an incredible job of keeping everything under wraps during the first round of interviews.
Again, at this point, I would highly doubt any offer would have been made, and also that your coach would be interested in VU apart from whatever financial package they could put together. Further, I’m pretty sure he would just parlay the offer into a raise and contract extension.
That makes sense...
Not to look down at the Vandy program (I think if this were a basketball hire, you’d have us beat), but it’s hard to imagine Whittingham going to a program that has been an SEC doormat for years.
You’ll get no argument from me. We’d love to have a program of Utah’s quality. Unfortunately (err…fortunately?), we refuse to cheat to the level of our SEC brethren to get there.
Have you read that "rent a church" article on NBC Sports. It puts everything in perspective.
Found it on the Oregon blog. ATQ
Why do canadians stick together? The same reason why Chris Horodecki turned his body and face around in his first WEC fight.

Vanderbilt is a gorgeous campus...
I would think the difficulty in Nashville’s success is that the Titans are there (besides the aforementioned lack of cheating). Notice most successful SEC schools don’t have a pro team in the same city.
Too bad though, it’s a beautiful city…probably one of my favorite places outside of Salt Lake & any coastal city in California.
here is something you probably did not know.
alabama has never one even one male ncaa championship outside of football. you think they would have gotten lucky just once. nope, and that is something like 163 years of business. lol.
