Expansion hinges on Colorado

So the question remains - will the Buffaloes bolt the Big 12? That's going to decide whether the Pac-Ten moves to twelve teams. If they do, it will be Utah & Colorado. If the Buffs turn the offer down, I believe there is not a suitable second option out there and, unfortunately, things will remain the same (and no, BYU is not a realistic option).

That means we've got to hope Colorado wants to move. If they do, we're golden. If they don't, it's probably likely Utah will be stuck in the Mountain West for the foreseeable future.

Brian Cook seems to think Colorado won't accept an invite. But I've got to think that since the P-10 is pushing this beyond just the typical random rumors, something is afoot.

Like I said earlier, though, we'll see.

If the pac 10 really wants 12 and Colorado turns them down I think they would consider BYU. but most likely pac 10 stays put

there's no way they'll seriously consider BYU

and it’s simply because of the fact that they won’t play sunday games.

if CU says no, then it’s no.

Agreed. I don’t think the school presidents in the PAC-10 will go for adding BYU simply because of the “cultural” difference of the school.

The Pac-10 NEEDS to expand

the Pac-10 really needs to expand. They need to add 2 TV markets, and a football championship game. Right now they are 4th in conference revenue generated per team (behind the Big11, the SEC, and the Big 12), and not that far ahead of the ACC and the Big least. Many of the Pac-10’s athletic departments are actually in the red. They need cash…badly. Badly enough to make me think they will expand regardless of CU.

Will CU go? I think it’s a lateral move in many ways, so it is a question. (Personally I think they do join) But who would the Pac 10 take if CU stays in the Big 12? I think the need to expand is bad enough for the Pac 10 to consider BYU. I also wouldn’t rule out UNLV, San Diego St, New Mexico or Hawaii, or possibly even Boise St or Utah St. Yes, none of those are as high on the Pac-10’s wish list as CU, but sometimes beggars can’t be too choosy.

Any aloofness on the part of the Pac-10 is just posturing for negotiations, in my opinion.
