Day one in the books; mixed results for Mountain West. Now onto day 2

I can't say it was a great day for the Mountain West. Though New Mexico & BYU advanced - it wasn't without struggle. The Cougars blew a decent second half lead and had to fight off the Florida Gators in double overtime, while the Lobos barely got by 14th-seeded Montana.

UNLV and San Diego State weren't as lucky. The Aztecs fell to Tennessee and the Rebels were upset by Northern Iowa.

Unless both BYU and New Mexico get their act together quickly, neither will make it to the Sweet Sixteen.

Though the Lobos have an easier path, as they'll face Washington. The Cougars, however, must take on a very good Kansas State team.

As for today, most eyes will probably be on the Utah State, Texas A&M game. Many pundits consider this a potential upset, as the Aggies are a fifth seed. We'll see.

Hopefully the excitement lives up to what we saw today.

I'm afraid neither BYU or New Mexico advance to the Sweet Sixteen.

The Lobos have a better shot, but Washington is good. K-State is very talented and big. I think they’ll give BYU fits. Especially if the Cougars play as badly as they did today.

I think New Mexico gets one more win.

so do i and you know i don't like byu but if that guy jimmer starts popping those three point shots.....

and scores 38 points again i think they will beat kansas state. look who k-state played north texas. they also have added incentive. i think if they beat k-state they play the sweet sixteen in the huntsman center or somewhere in utah. i think i read that.

I'm all about covering the spread and moneylines. I was building a house, I don't deserve this, deserves have nothing to do with it. Bang. "Unforgiven" I drink your milkshake. I drink it up! "There Will BE Blood"

will they cover the 5.5 points?

they beat north texas by 20. that was the best sunbelt team. i think byu could keep it close and if jimmer f. or that other guy starts hitting those three’s i like their chances. i’m all for what is best for the mwc. i don’t care if i don’t like byu at all we still have two teams left so i want them to win. i was praying for sdsu to beat tenn. but they got the late 3 and that was the end of that story. coulda shoulda been 2-0 vs sec. both games vs sec were close and billy donavan is a fool. did you hear his comments. instead of having his player drive to the basket to try to make contact in ot he draws up a play where their guard took an 18 foot jump shot. it was not like byu was playing the best defense either. then he goes on to say that was the most physical game of the season for both teams and he wants to see if it will effect byu when they play k-state. florida won those 2 ncg’s in spite of him not b/c he is a good basketball coach. three of those players made the nba and i know at least 2 of them are still there.

It has nothing to do...

with my hatred for BYU. Which is very real.

BYU can’t defend and rebound with K-State. They’ll be lucky to keep it in single digits imho. They’d have to catch fire from outside just to keep it close.

Florida is not K-State.

Florida barely made the NCAAs and BYU struggled with a team they probably should have easily defeated. Remember, K-State gave UNLV its worst loss of the season…in the Thomas and Mack Center.

I think BYU has a chance. But it’s going to take a perfect game.

K-State's coach

Guy is one of the more intense coach I’ve seen on the sideline. He’ll have his team ready for BYU.

Utah State goes down in flames.

Will they ever become a threat in the postseason?!?

by JazzyUte on Mar 19, 2010 5:24 PM MDT reply actions

Not as long as...

they only play 1 or 2 decent teams during the season and then get their first real challenge in the tourney.

Stop scheduling cupcakes and go play somebody USU.

I felt a little embarrassed by Utah State. You win a incredible 14 straight conference games but you have a terrible showing in the NCAA’s. Like ranger said they need to prove they belong, dominating the WAC doesn’t mean anything, they need to play good teams out of conference.
