Breaking: Mountain West will not expand at this time
The Mountain West has announced that it does not have plans to expand at this time. This is surprising news since it seemed pretty much a guarantee the conference was going to expand this week by inviting the Broncos. However, for whatever reason not released, they've decided to pass this time around.
This does not mean, however, the conference won't inevitably expand - but for now, it looks like the Broncos will be playing in the WAC.
We'll keep you posted as further news develops.

craig thompson is an idiot. wait till the dust settles and then get all the kibbles and bits?
first chance utah gets: i’ll take the reconfigured big 12 or pac -ten expansion if it somehow includes us. i can’t wait till you are unemployed thompson.

Gotta wonder
If TCU, BYU, and Utah said to Thompsen that they did not want BSU. I mean, these three don’t mind fighting amongst themselves, they rotate who is on top, but adding BSU. . .a team all three struggle against . . .
Did the chicken cross the road to maintain status quo in the MWC?
The MWC is not at the top of the conference food chain. They can’t create legal obligations for re-alignment right now. They need to be flexible and ready to take advantage of other conference re-alignment opportunities. After the P10/B10/B12 realignment dust settles, the MWC will be there with first dibs on the remains.
In the end, I think it would be great if Boise ends up joining; however, I agree that it is smart to sit back and wait before making any moves. The possibilities are infinite right now.
like i said, they might get the kibbles and bits if the mwc even exists itself.

They can ( and plan to) reevaluate by the end of the month.
Basically it all rests on the Big 12-Nebraska ultimatum.
I think a decision this week would have required Utah, BYU and TCU to commit to the MWC in the face of the impending changes. Those schools did not commit to the MWC, so why should Boise State make the move with that uncertainty?
If the Big 12 implodes Boise State could be invited the next day.

i agree with most of what you say.
anyway i want utah out of the mwc and into the reconfigured big 12 or pac-ten if that happens. who invited all the boise media to the meeting in wyoming? i want to be in a conference that is a leader and not a follower like the mwc is. they said it perfectly on the espn ticker last night.

The MWC was set to expand until the PAC 10 announced an attack on the Big 12
The MWC now looks to become the refuge for the Big 12 teams left behind, if the MWC wants them.

just got down watching espn. it says the mwc is targeting colorado. just great. lol.
look at it this way "if " nebraska goes to the big ten then i would expect the big 12 to immediately ask either tcu or boise state to the big 12. why would they sit around? the mwc could have been a leader. they are a proven follower right now and will get what they deserve.

Why would the big 12 ask TCU or Boise to join them?
They gain nothing from TCU (they already control Texas) and they gain very little from Boise. Utah or BYU have the same upside and fewer downsides than Boise. If the Big 12 loses 2 they’ll take Utah/BYU. If they lose three (CU, NU, MU) then maybe they add Utah/BYU/Boise.
