POLL: Favorite Utah Football Playor

So, Jazzy had a good idea. Here's a poll. Who is your favorite Utah football player? These are just football players and pretty much from 1999 through the present (since I wasn't really a Utah fan prior to 99). If I left someone out, feel free to vote for other and leave the name and the reason in the comments. My personal vote is for Weddle, but man it's a tough choice. Poll is open through the end of the month.

Eric Weddle is winning in a landslide!

100% of the vote! Of course, I’m the only one who’s voted so far.

Now it's 2-1 Weddle v. Steve Smith.

Still, Weddle pulling in 2/3 of the vote.

Someone voted "other" without saying who they're voting for.

I’m going to guess Darnell Arcineaux or TD “Misnomer” Croshaw.

Chris Ma' afala.

remember that game vs utah state where he was over 200 yards and in another runhe had the utah state players pile up on him and one player from usu was punching his crotch. They showed it on the local sports news shows quite a bit. In slow motion no less. I saw him once in person and he had the biggest thighs i have ever seen. i just wanted to mention him. i like eric weddle too.

I'm all about covering the spread and moneylines. Glory favors the bold. Chance favors the prepared mind. Luck, well i have that too. University of Utah goes to the Pac-12 conference in 2011. I expect them to compete immediately for the conference CG. I still will always follow the Mountain West Conference. Brock Lesnar will defeat Cain Velasquez and face the winner of Junior Dos Santos vs Roy Nelson where he will defeat JDS and stake his claim as pound for pound champion.

Weddle was a fun player...

But the biggest knock is that his best seasons (2005 and 2006), Utah wasn’t all that great.

He certainly didn’t deliver a special season like Smith and Johnson.

That's true, but that's because he's a DB.

It’s not really possible for a DB (even an all-purpose one like EW) to take over a game or carry a team (although he did his best in several games).

Not that Alex and BJ aren’t great choices, but the success of the team is not really dependent on any one DB like it is on the QB.

I know what you're saying...

And you’re right. It’s hard to deliver at that position. What I should’ve said is that the struggles of 2006’s Utes hurts his standing, even though it wasn’t his fault.

Smith and Johnson have memorable seasons. Weddle’s best, unfortunately, was not so memorable.

Had that team managed to beat Wyoming, New Mexico and BYU, I think there would certainly be more grounds to suggest the season was memorable (it would’ve meant a conference championship and eleven-wins).

But alas…
