Pitt's Jabaal Sheard arrested, suspended
This is unfortunate news that will certainly impact the Utes.
"We are in the midst of gathering information on a weekend incident involving Jabaal Sheard," said Pitt athletic department spokesman E.J. Borghetti. "While we conduct our own investigation Jabal has been indefinitely suspended from the team."
Last season Sheard, who is from Hollywood Hills, Fla., started all 13 games for the Panthers and had 42 tackles, 10 1/2 for loss, five sacks and a team-high 12 quarterback hurries.
The defensive end was suspended indefinitely and most likely will be out for the Utah game.

Apparently, Mr. Sheard decided it would be wise to throw the guy through a storefront window and then continue to pummel him.
See you in November, Jabaal.
What a moron!!
Hey if it helps my Utes I am not all that concerned but what an idiot to do that. I can’t see him escaping this without a numerous games suspension at the least. Chances are he will be joining Masoli looking for a new team.
Ouch!
Well, let’s cross our fingers and hope he straightens out his life and that nothing like this happens to our Utes.
There are enormous problems associated with the higher end talent pool and recruiting kids who are bigger and faster since some of those inevitably got that way by using enhancements that alter their ability to stay calm, as it were.
As for me I want him in our game—I don’t want to lose to or beat their second string.
oh, he will probably just miss a few games. one felony you can get away with. two and it's usually goodbye
it will help utah out and i don’t expect any of our players being that stupid. we rarely have off the field problems. thank coach whitt fot that.
I'm all about covering the spread and moneylines. Glory favors the bold. Chance favors the prepared mind. Luck, well i have that too. University of Utah goes to the Pac-12 conference in 2011. I expect them to compete immediately for the conference CG. I still will always follow the Mountain West Conference. If he doesn’t end up playing, this would be a huge blow for Pitt. He and Romeus are among the best DE tandem in the country, if not the best. Now Utah will have a better chance protecting Wynn from the leading sack team in the nation.
I already thought the Utes defense would control the line of scrimmage, on that side of the ball, as Pitt has an all new interior and Utah is two deep at every position. I was already leaning towards this, but now I have to believe they will do the same on the offensive side as well.
I heard Notre Dame had 8 players arrested last weeks as well.
Anybody know if they’re 8 starters or just 8 guys on the roster?
The story I saw had the following guys:
Nate Montana (QB)
Lorenzo Wood (FR CB)
Chris Watt (SO OG)
Roby Toma (FR WR)
Nick Tausch (SO K)
T.J. Jones (FR WR)
Steve Filer (JR LB)
Tate Nichols (FR TE)
Were any of those guys likely cracking ND’s two-deep before this incident?

No starters. Unsure about the two deep.
Montana the latest Irish legacy caught in mass underage drinking net by Dr. Saturday.
Anyway, I doubt this will result in any of the players missing any games. A citation for underage drinking is only slightly more serious than a citation for driving without a license. Unless there’s more to this story, all of the players will be on the active roster come game 1 and long before November 13 when Utah and Notre Dame meet.
Marquis Wilson got at least a game for underage drinking.
And then a season for doing it again. Of course, Whitt’s tougher than many coaches, but I assume they’ll get at least a game.
Here’s what I could find (a lot of this is based on CFN’s depth chart):
Wood was a 3* DB but I think ND was pretty set at corner, so no big deal.
TJ Jones is a 4* WR and I know they need bodies at WR (CFN is projecting him to start at the slot WR).
No idea about the TE situation, but Nichols was a 3* TE.
Tomy was a RS FR and was a 3* out of Hawaii (Utah and BYU were after him too, but I don’t know if we offered).
Watt was a 4* OG and I think he was probably going to be on the OL 2-deep at RG.
Filer is the projected backup at OLB
Montana was the #2 behind Dayne Crist

He was also charged with DUI.
That’s the big difference in these cases. Not only was Wilson underage, he was driving. None of these players, as far as we know, are alleged to have been driving.
montana's son is pushing crist for starting spot
crist is coming off major reconstructing knee surgery. brian kelly runs a spread offense. don’t be surprised if we see montana in our game with them.
