I guess if Thursday and Friday were appetizers, Saturday offers up the main course.
College football's first Saturday is here and there are a bevy of exciting games to watch.
So hopefully you're not doing anything productive today and you can spend it relaxed watching college football.
It all begins at 10:00 a.m. on ESPN when Miami takes on Florida.
Great game, right?
Nope. It's not that Miami - they played Thursday. It's the other Miami. You know, the one from Ohio. The team that managed one win last season.
Exciting.
So if you want to talk about today's games, do so here. I'll probably be in and out with my thoughts on every game I watch.
Ah Saturday's in the fall (err, late summer), I love 'em.

Utah football an appetizer? Never! Especially against a ranked opponent. For Utah fans, Thursday was absolutely the main course. Friday was an apéritif. Saturday is dessert. Monday is the after-party.

Tho I gotta admit, I miss the anticipation for the first game of the season! I’m jealous of all those teams’ fans who are having a helluva time sleeping tonight.

I am not jealous. It was pure hell wondering what we were going to look like. I am glad I get to relax and enjoy the other games today. Hopefully Whitt has the guys watching video and figuring out how to fix special teams. In a way the UNLV, SJSU type of games are the ones that have me the most nervous since they are very easy to overlook.

I like the feeling. Anticipation of an unknown event is always a bit fun. Especially when you’re going to it. Kind of like the build up to a roller coaster.
I’m weird like that, tho.

I’m done with that.
The anticipation was a pain, I’m glad we’ve got the win out of the way.
Now to sit and watch other teams try to match what we did.

Wow. Urban Meyer won't be happy with Florida's start.
Not that they’ll lose – but they look uggggly right now against Miami.
Especially on offense.
Florida looks awful..
Luckily they scheduled a MAC bottom feeder otherwise they would be losing

Granted CSU isn’t your ideal opponent to do this but you get my point. The Buffs want to show all the naysayers they belong.
This is amazing.
I don’t ever recall seeing a Mountain West team getting this abused.
Even our bad teams generally competed against BCS teams (UNLV, SDSU).

Is the MWC dead to me already?
In seasons past, I’ve always rooted for the Utes first and MWC second. Now, however, I find myself rooting for the PAC teams, notably those PLAYING the MWC teams (and Colorado over CSU). I guess I’m in a PAC state of mind already! Go Utes! Go Pac!
With how horrible the MWC is playing right now, it might not be a bad thing to cheer for the P-10.

This might be the worst loss, margin wise, a MWC team has faced since the conference formed in 1999.
There is so much crappy football this week
There’s something kind of hollow about starting your season off against Youngstown St., Samford, Louisiana-Lafayette, Florida A&M… I could go on. Although honestly, I guess I’d rather see Utah play a team like that than not play at all. But as a college football fan, I don’t even care to see the highlights of those games.
On another note, Weber State put on a decent game at Boston College.

I would think that if the NCAA instituted a single exhibition/preseason game that did not count toward a record (a glorified scrimmage if you will) it would increase the marquee matchups on opening week…but who knows, since pollsters would still use the scrimmage as a barometer for where the team is and it could end up hurting the team’s rank…

Agreed. Don't see why they allow it in college basketball, but not college football.
One game, against a FCS or even DII team, could do wonders if it didn’t count on the win total.
There are FCS/FBS games this week that are more competitive.

This is a good game!
ND will win. But their offense doesn’t look scary good. I like our chances.

But definitely not. It was Rocky Long’s unusual defense that gave Utah fits not the names on the uniforms. San Diego State on the other hand, they make me a little nervous.
SDSU held Utah scoreless in the second half last year.
An extra year with the team should make a big difference too.

I’m probably in the minority, but I’m rooting for Utah’s strength of schedule to be better so I’m cheering for BYU.

I wouldn't be upset if BYU lost. I kinda like seeing BYU fans upset.
I’m not going to get too worked up either way. But all things considered, I’d prefer BYU to win.

And TCU looks extremely tough on the O-line, they run it well.
Neither of these teams looked as sloppy as Utah and Pitt did.
TCU looks far more beatable now than they did a week ago.
Oregon State is an okay team. However, they’re god-awful in road games in September, so I half-expected them to get blown out. They held their own against what is supposed to be a top-six team, who was playing in a de facto home game.
TCU is still the team to beat – but they’re not 2009’s Frogs.
They're gonna have to bring their A-game for a few teams.
BYU looks tough. That’s always a close contest. AFA is going to be tough and so will Notre Dame.
Knew BYU would win.
You can pencil them in for ten-plus wins a year under Bronco. Defense looks pretty good. Offense worked about as well as expected.
I think BYU will probably lose to FSU and TCU prior to the Utah game – which is always up in the air in terms of who wins.
But a good win by the Cougars. They impressed me.
Their offense will be clicking by November.
It’s going to be a scary good game. BYU should enter with no more than two losses. They could probably push FSU to the brink and I wouldn’t be surprised if they upset them in Tallahassee.
There is only one real ‘sure-loss’ on the schedule for the Coogs and it’s @ TCU.

The Cougars have lost a total of 4 home games since 2005.

Normally when a FCS team upsets an FBS team, they do it by hanging around all game.

Yes, Kansas, who reportedly almost went to the Pac-16 over Utah. 3-6. Didn’t score a single touchdown. At Kansas. Against North Dakota State. Who went 3-8 last year.
