Utes ranked 20th in both polls
About where I thought they'd be, though I held out hope that maybe they'd get some love. Nope.
TCU is 4th and 5th. BYU unranked in the Media and ranked 24th in the Coaches.

Is it me?
It is great that Utah went up in the polls to 20th in both…
However I feel like, is it me or does the media not respect Utah? I honestly think that Utah is much better than where the media places them in the polls. Of course I am biased. But I think that they are at least a top 15 team, maybe higher.
I agree
I really don’t think that any official polls should be released until week 4 or 5 of the season. It’s more or less arbitrary where your team starts the season in the rankings, but you are stuck fighting against your initial ranking the entire season. They should let each team get a body of work consisting of a few games before the initial judgements are made.

Stupid..but oh well..
Utah beat a Big East title contender in week 1. While top 10 teams like Oklahoma and Florida struggled against lesser teams. Other teams schedule weaklings and keep their spot. Whatever..
i also love the fact that the ap put tcu at 4th b/c florida, texas and okie all struggled.
utah state is going to win some games with that offense. sorry i have been very busy with vegas stuff. i thought utah did well vs pitt. i like what wynn, wide, asiata, christopher, brooks and the entire defense which we were worrying about. they actually only gave up 14 points if not for the fumbles and blocked punt. i think we cruise to 4-0 and i hope iowa state is at least 3-2 when we play them. they play iowa this week.
I'm all about covering the spread and moneylines. Glory favors the bold. Chance favors the prepared mind. Luck, well i have that too. University of Utah goes to the Pac-12 conference in 2011. I expect them to compete immediately for the conference CG. Brock Lesnar will defeat Cain Velasquez. Womens MMA, the next big thing in sports. Utah and Boise take care of business in week one. Don't be surprised if they both go undefeated.

Should Utah be a little higher...
maybe, but the fact that Pitt lost to us at hime in OT and dropped more than 10 spots and out of both polls tells me more about what people think of the Utes than being ranked 20th.

Yeah, that is just horshshit.
Pitt’s a very good team, will only get better and didn’t deserve to drop out of the polls. The fifteenth-ranked team flies more than halfway across the country, takes on a very tough team on the road on a Thursday, only loses by 3 in OT and that makes them less than a top 25 team? Really? Where’s the logic in that? Makes me wonder what would’ve happened to Boise had they lost. Would they have dropped all the way to number 21 or worse? This is why human voting cannot be a part of determining who the best teams are. PLAYOFF NOW!
Anyway, I can’t see anyone else taking The Big East right now. Out of Pitt, UConn and Cincy, Pitt definitely looked head and shoulders better.

Generally a losing team drops about 10 spots.
VT dropped 9 for thier loss, I’m with you in that Pitt should have stayed in the polls. The Big East has a perception problem similar to the one that non-BCS teams have. Non-BCS teams drop around 15 and Big East teams drop around 12 spots. Which is why they dropped out.
If the exact same game happens only it’s Alabama vs Utah, or really if it had been ANY team from the Big10, SEC, ACC, etc they drop to 24th.
Btw, listening to VT fans cry about that 9 place drop was very entertaining. xD
VT dropped only 3 in AP
From 10 to 13. not a big drop, they dropped 7 spots in USA today. but they ended up in the same spot in both polls. it’s weird how that happens, because before the game Utah was 24th in USA today and not ranked in AP but they still ended up 20th in both polls. kind of odd.
You’re right. I was looking at the coaches poll, and I had it in my head that they dropped all the way to 15. But the averages are still valid. That’s generally what the drop is. VT got the benefit of losing to a top 3 team and they tend to drop a little less when losing to a team in the top 5. Unless you’re Big East or non-AQ. Then you usually still drop the full amount.
