Runnin' Utes show life in win over New Mexico
This was a big step back toward respectability. After an abysmal start to the conference season, Utah has now won two straight and look far more competitive heading into the meat of the conference schedule than they did a week ago.
Could they finally be turning things around?
Hopefully this is a sign of things to come and the team finishes above .500 in Mountain West play.

New Mexico is 1-3 in the MWC
not so good for a team that went 14-2 in the MWC last season
as for the utes you gotta beat teams like TCU coming up next
TCU will give us an idea of where this season is going...
A loss there and it’s hard to imagine they win enough games to finish at or above .500 in conference play (which ultimately means a losing season). A win, though, and I think they can find 8 conference wins.
next 4 games are winnable
we could be 6-3 before having to go b2b on road vs. SDSU & BYU
than again we could also be 2-7, who can predict this team
it’s make or break time
Utah lost to San Diego
I’ll gladly take a win over New Mexico.

I've been saying it since the start of the year...
watch out for JJ O’Brien. Kid’s gonna be good.
Decent nucleus there for next year with Clyburn, O’Brien, and Glover.
Still not sold on Jiggy and Foster though, they have some serious holes in their games.

I agree.
I really like the building blocks we have. At the 2, 3, and 4 we have guys who are long and athletic. Hard to guard. Jiggy plays out of control too much and seems to try to shoot his way out of slumps. Foster has been tougher on teh boards of late, but is still lacking as a post up threat. Luke Nevill he is not.

Jim Boylen's players....
actually seem to like him. What I am really excited about is next year. I am also excited to watch what happens in the spring. I hope its not another mass exodus like this past year.
In looking back on the conference championship year (08-09). I see a lot of similarities to this team. When the core guys were juniors, (07-08), they struggled. but they also had some nice moments. When the core guys were seniors, they rolled. Kepkay, Nevill, Borha (who was in my opinion the most underrated and underappreciated Ute ever), Green, and Downie were all ready to lead and play well.
When they left, the cupboard was bare. We relied on complimentary players too much (Drca, Tillie, Brown) had too many hotheads (Henderson), too many guys who underachieved (Tavita and Cyphers).
This time around, i think that the program is starting to build a pipeline.
Next year, Clyburn, Jiggy, Kupets, DiMaria, and Foster will all be seniors. But the next year, we will have a nice core of Washburn, glover, and Hines as seniors. After that, JJ Obrien. I also like some of the other guys in the pipeline, including DOminque lee. I think if these guys can stay together, the utes are goign in the right direction. If there is a mass exodus this next year, its time to look at a new coach.
GO UTES!

You mean except the 5 or 6 that have left the program, right?

Nice Win
I always remember Utah having great basketball teams. I hope those days come back soon. It will make for interesting show downs when you play my Dawgs in the PAC-12.
