Runnin' Utes lose conference opener to Air Force

Utah is now below .500 on the season and quickly fading to the cellar of the Mountain West Conference.

This loss is their fifth in a row - the longest losing streak since Ray Giacoletti lost six in his final season. It's also one more nail in Jim Boylen's ever sinking coffin, even though he missed tonight's game due to a family illness.

I hate to type that, especially with the unknown circumstances surrounding Boylen's absence - but this team is looking worse and worse as the season progresses and it's probably not going to get much easier over the next couple of weeks.

Awaiting Utah is home games against the San Diego St. Aztecs and BYU Cougars. Neither appear to be a win at the moment.

If they lose both games, the Utes will have produced their worst losing streak since the pre-Majerus days.

Which, unfortunately, feels like a hundred years ago.

I really like Boylen...

…but for whatever reason, it’s just not working. Utah needs to fix this soon. I hate to say it, but I think Boylen will get his papers soon.

Time for Boylen to Move On

I hate to see a coach get the axe, but the time has come to say “So long, farewell Alfetizein Goodbye….” Lyrics courtesy of “The Sound of Music!”

The goal of every Ute fan should be to caffeinate Cosmo's punch and watch him self combust.

What's Rick Majerus doing? Jerry Pimm?

College football over the NFL any day. College basketball way over the NBA any day. Go Orange. Go Utes. Go Kings. Go Dodgers.

Watched this one..

We actually played decent through most and were in the ball game until we decided to fail at the end. They key moment – Clyburn jacks up a three that barely hits rim with like 2 minutes left, Air Force get’s the ball makes one pass down court and the player goes in and dunks it and get’s fouled for a 3 pt play. After that I knew we had little chance because all our offense was pass it to Clyburn and have him jack up a 3. Everything is on the perimeter with this team, and we were making our 3’s yet still lost…we aren’t going to win many games this year.

Support Boylen

Let me just say that Boylen will be back next year. That is 100% sure. How do I know? Well, Boylen was very involved in the PAC 10 move and he will be instrumental in making the move over the summer. I am well-connected in Utah and I know all this for a fact so you can stop pounding your drums. Also, Boylen’s very close immediate relative is ill and no one is going to let him go at this point.

So start supporting this team.

I've always supported the team...

That isn’t going to change.

But Boylen returning next year is absolutely going to ruin any type of Pac-12 buzz the basketball program hoped to create. He’s in over his head. He’s on his way to a second straight losing season and it’s very likely he’ll have a third next year. No coach in modern basketball history here at Utah has produced three losing seasons in a row.

I am sorry that Boylen’s going through some tough times. But if that’s the case, maybe he should think of stepping aside and devoting his entire time to this serious illness.

I have and always will support the team..

but that doesn’t mean I have to support Boylen. I think he has recruited well enough for this team to be competitive but they are not well coached. Air Force is not more talented than us, just better coached. This team has potential… and next year could be quite good…. if we had a coach that could help them get there. As I watch the games, I don’t think “wow, these guys are lousy!” I think “wow, these guys are not well coached”

so there
