Wynn to miss at least 2 to 3 weeks

Jordan Wynn will miss at least two to three weeks before his injured shoulder is reevaluated.

What does this mean? Well Jon Hays is the guy for at least two weeks and, reading between the lines, probably the remainder of the season. Unless he's an unmitigated disaster, it's hard to imagine Wynn returns - especially with him still needing to be reevaluated before a final decision is made.

That tells me the coaches have conceded Wynn won't be back without fully saying he's out for the remainder of the season. Of course, only time will tell.

Hearing the description of the problem

“Joint continuing to pop out of the joint”, I thought he has thrown his last pass for the Utes ever.

I don’t read too much into 2-3 weeks other than for sure he’s out 2-3 weeks. If Hays comes in and kills it they will definitely keep Wynn out. One thing that will play into this, is Whit has admitted they want to redshirt Shreve, so they may bring Wynn back, if only as a backup, to keep that possibility open.

Glass half full

I know it is easy to call it a season-ending loss, and initially that was my diagnosis (during the week people call me Dr.) based on the mechanism of injury and hearing it was dislocating. Sounds like a torn labrum, but you need imaging to be certain. But Ute Nation doesn’t hang their head. We grit our teeth and battle. And battle. And battle.

Wynn can recover from this, certainly. It may take a few weeks, it may take the rest of the season. But this is not career-ending. Not by a mile. The kid has shown some grit and guts. I expect him back in a Ute Uni.

After this Saturday, the brunt of the 2011 schedule is in the books. The remaining teams are ALL beatable. We will stumble along the way, but we will also show poise and a will to win. This team, and fanbase, will regroup. I am SO over the UW loss and getting amped for ASU!

Hays is the guy for the next few weeks and win or lose, a Utah Man Am I! Go utes!

Now go out there and MAKE ’EM QUIT!

Right Onl, Brother Ute!!!

Alex Smith for Elliot, Ratcliff for Bryan Johnson… The list is long. The results are not always incredible, but this is not a new situation for us.

Kid looked like a gamer this week. Not totally ready to have been tossed in, but trying. And he will be ready for ASU. They may be more than he can handle, but we know our coaches and players will do everything they can to help the kid out and get him ready. And play to his strengths and help cover his weaknesses.

After that, all we can ask is he go out and play like a Ute. If we lose at least we can say we gave it our best shot.

Ted Miller

How close are we now to fulfilling Ted Miller’s pre-season worst case scenario?

by H2O_UTE on Oct 3, 2011 3:44 PM MDT reply actions

Well...

Teddy boy had Jake Heaps killing us… So at least he got that wrong so far…

Lets hope Hays has what it takes.

In the words of Craig Bolerjack...

Buckle up! This is going to be a bumpy ride. I’ve always been a Wynn supporter and I’m sad to see him go down like this. He will be missed.

There is going to be a STEEP learning curve for Hays that we have to be prepared to suffer through.

My shred of hope: Our receivers have shown the ability to get wide open at times; I mean Jordan hasn’t exactly been threading the needle this year. Even against USC, they were open enough for Wynn’s lamest of ducks to arrive before the defender. I’ve got to think even Hays can get the ball to our receivers with that much space. Teams will be stacking the box and begging him to throw the ball especially early on, which means lots of 1-on-1 coverage. Everyone else must step up huge!

They will...

Our receivers are phenom’s… Imagine what will happen now that we’re going to go more spread and more four receiver sets, I’m sure… This could really show the core’s depth…

and imagine next year when we add Denham, Gordon and a more involved Ken Scott

Hays' ability to run the ball

won’t hurt either. That ability (and added threat that we haven’t had) alone could make up for a lot. Gives Chow some options. The kid played with balls on Saturday, and I loved his post-game comment. “I’m a scholarship player. They brought me here to play football, so I have to be ready.” I’m glad that he is aware that he is expected to earn what he has been given. That says a lot about his work ethic and where his head is.

I'm liking Hays

He has a lot to work on, but he seems to have some serious heart, a good arm, and some scrambling ability. I think he brings an interesting dynamic to the game.

I seriously doubt we've seen the last of Wynn this season

The injury is far from the season-ending type.

An out-of-joint type injury in his non-throwing shoulder? No way he’s done.

Wynn will come back when that non-throwing shoulder allows him to move it with no pain. No way it’s gonna be hurting for the next two months.

I’d agree completely if it was his throwing shoulder.

I don't know...

It seems to me that this is a lingering issue. Maybe it’s something that needs to be healed and once healed, he’s fine. But the fact it’s been an issue two games in a row (with a bye week to rest), is a concern.

I think the only way Wynn returns is if Hays bombs badly these next two games.

by JazzyUte on Oct 5, 2011 2:18 AM MDT up reply actions

I'm of the belief

That Wynn has thrown his last pass as a Ute.

I’m not happy about that, but it just seems his body has won the battle against his talent.

by UnHoly Ram on Oct 5, 2011 9:51 AM MDT up reply actions

Better in the end

It could be that having 2-3 weeks off could help heal his weakened throwing shoulder and if Hays performs well, it could really motivate Wynn this season and during the off-season to improve.

I haven’t seen a lot of Hays, but he does seem like a gamer. I think it will help that he’ll be ready to be thrown in. As for next year the QB position should be more sure with the young talent of Travis Wilson (Im psyched for this guy) and Chase Hansen (The next Brian Blechen??) GO UTES!

Two Freshmen != "More Sure"

You are putting a lot of hope on two freshmen. We only need to look 40 miles south to see just how dangerous relying on highly touted recruits can be.

Truth is next year we are more likely to see Tyler Shreve than either Travis Wilson or Chase Hansen.

by UnHoly Ram on Oct 5, 2011 5:13 PM MDT up reply actions

For as many QB's as we have on our roster...

.. We sure are hurting.

Especially considering we have 7 High School QB Recruits on the roster.

Ha ha

Yeah, too bad only two of them are getting any reps at QB. Although I guess now Robles is back from LB, so that makes three.

Robles took snaps against BYU

Even though the Announcers were adamant that he was Tyler Shreve, who has yet to take a snap this year.
