so I went overboard last game. But this single awesome video sums up the feeling of the win today. Go UTES!
I hate Utah's prevent defense
Said it in the game thread, and I’ll say it again here.

I hate prevent defense
There fixed it for you
I call it "Prevent the win" defense
I absolutely hate it too.

WSU played it safe....and payed the price
I’m not certain we get a stop if they go for the win in regulation. Glad to see we put the brakes down and got the W.

not sure if this is right
1191 coming in
+ 186 today
= 1377
The record is just over 1500 right?
so 130 yards?
he could definitely get that against the buffs
by khaostheory117 on Nov 19, 2011 7:03 PM MST up reply actions
He did tie the record for most rushing TD's in a season
2004 Marty Johnson had 12 rushing on his way to 22 total (both records).
Cuattro is sitting at 12 rushing, 14 total.
ESPN
put him at 16 total, which I think leads the Pac-12.
by Joseph Silverzweig on Nov 20, 2011 9:24 AM MST up reply actions
He leads the conference in rushing.
Also I mixed up Marty Johnson’s stats. The 22 record was when he was at Butte, although the 14 is the Ute record. Anyone know what the total single season rushing + receiving record for Utah is.
Question about next year:
will White be a factor?
The reason he gets so many yards is because nearly every play goes to him. If we try a balanced offense, he probably won’t get in rhythm. If he gets 30 carries, eventually the opposing D will slip up. In a normal season, he is not going to run so often.
Does this sound rational, or should I stick to music videos?
There is nothing I would love more
than white having less yard due to competent qb play
Agreed
With his ability I can only imagine what he could do if the entire defense didn’t load the box and key on him.
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care, In hopes that St Larry soon would be there. -Maji Man
Huge factor!
Maybe not as many yards, but he is great in the open field. He’s a huge threat and will have to be game planned for.
Can’t wait until 2012!
Hell, I can’t wait for the Holiday Bowl!
I'll tell you after I see our QB next year...
by BetterasIgetolder on Nov 19, 2011 7:03 PM MST up reply actions
I say he could be as good or better...
either he gets the yards again due to a bad qb situation, or if defenses don’t focus on him, and half to play honest and not stack the box, then he will have more opportunities.
He's a factor...
.. If only because he’s such a threat and it will open everything else up.
If QB and passing improves
I think he’ll remain close to what he’s doing now. Maybe not record setting, but when he gets 150+ against a stacked box, I think he’ll get 125+ with fewer carries through a looser D.
If anyone found my snowboarding gloves after storming the field following the 2004 TDS game, I want them back!
It's a W. Nuff said...
I was getting upset at the end of the game. I was trying to figure the numbers in my head and came up with: White: 100+, Offense: 20+ points, and we were winning the turnover battle 4-2?. Why did this go to overtime.
Hays was big when he needed to be. White is money. Mo freaking Lee (both good and bad). Hell of a game. I can’t take many more of those.
Hats off to Wazzu…

We are one game from the Holiday Bowl guys!
…and 2 ASU losses from the Pac12 championship game!
This game was my last worry! Give Wazzu credit. They had their back against the wall, and they gave it their all, even after back-breaking turnovers and scores (muffed punt, JBIV run). Lesser teams (BYU, UCLA) would have given up. So much credit to their resiliency!
I am now on the Jazzy-train…tremendous coaching job by Whit! Great innaugaral season! I’m researching hotels in SD! Who’s with me!!!
My only regret...
…ok, not my only regret, but biggest one, was not getting to OT against USC. What a feather in our cap they would have been…
Not to mention putting us almost in the driver seat for the Pac12 South (I think ASU loses at least one more).
No, but the Oregon cheerleaders are hot...

Read that he took himself out of the endzone
Someone on the ESPN forum says that when a reception happens in midair and no defender makes contact, the ball is marked where the receiver’s feet first land. So if he jumped and came forward out of the endzone, then it wasn’t a botched call ( one of the few of the night on either side. )
Though I’m still ticked at the home brew clock in the final seconds.
If anyone found my snowboarding gloves after storming the field following the 2004 TDS game, I want them back!
I think the actual catch was outside the endzone
The Utah defender was standing right on the goal line and the receiver jumped in front of the defender for the catch. It is difficult to tell if the receiver is in the endzone or not until you look at his position relative to the defender standing on the goal line.

A few thoughts :
I can’t believe I’m going to say this, but I think the mtn. and any announcer they have there would be better than watching KJZZ and Steve Brown. He has to be one of the worst announcers I’ve ever had to listen to.
Who the hell kicked John Hays ass and put on his jersey at halftime?
That Sean Sellwood pass was soooo ballsy.
What happened to our questionable kicking game? Peterson has been great and really came up big today.

OT but does anyone have any updates on the recruiting front?
Just a gauge of potential commits interest would be nice. Like where we fall in top 10’s

Really rooting for Oregon to comeback...
I feel like unless the Utes get a shot at Oregon, I would like to see them have a shot at bringing the National title to the Pac 12. I am so sick of the SEC. Plus Lane Kiffin is a moron.
Rooting for Oregon and Stanford
We’ll get 2X BCS money if they both get into BCS games. I don’t know if Oregon gets in with two losses. Plus, you have to root against SC.
by Ute_in_Austin on Nov 19, 2011 8:19 PM MST up reply actions
Oregon gets in regardless...unless they lose to OSU.
Remember, they own the tie-breaker over Stanford, so they’re going to the Rose Bowl unless they drop another game.
Ok
Cool, so I guess a UO loss doesn’t really affect an at large bid for the Tree.
by Ute_in_Austin on Nov 19, 2011 8:36 PM MST up reply actions
I don't think it will, especially since Luck is the front-runner for the Heisman...
Always nice having the Heisman winner in your bowl game.
It can drop the Utes down a notch in the Pac 12 bowl picture though...
If Oregon is somehow able to get into the NC game and another Pac 12 school goes to the Rose Bowl.
"The only good is knowledge and the only evil is ignorance."-Socrates
I don't think so...
Because we’re looking at the same scenario, but with just a different bowl game.
NC: Oregon
Rose: Stanford
Or
Rose: Oregon
BCS Bowl: Stanford
Either way, the overall set up really doesn’t change because we’re dealing with the same two teams and I think Stanford is going to be in a BCS bowl, unless they lose to Cal tonight.
Why are some PAC 12 rivalries this week?
I thought the PAC 12 was trying to keep the biggest rivalries at the end of the year?
ASU vs AZ
Stanford vs Cal
It would have been nice for us to play TDS the last game of the year and Colorado this week.
No thanks, I'll take the 54-10 beatdown in week 3

Those two games are this week because Notre Dame plays Stanford next week.
Since Stanford can play this week, Cal has to play someone else next week. That required a second rivalry game to be bumped.
I don't think they are...
Oregon is locked into a BCS bowl game unless they lose another. Stanford was always going to be an at-large hope because the Ducks most likely will be in the Rose.
This right here.
Oregon can lose this game, they just have to beat the Beavers next week and win the CCG and they are in the Rose. Now Stanford is the team we need to root for to win out and claim a Fiesta bowl spot.

Before the UCLA game
I calculated a 5% chance.
Now, ASU needs to lose a game against Cal, who looks like the superior team. I’d say they lose 3/4 games. USC has to beat UCLA… they probably win 9/10. So that’s 27/40… 67% chance. Sounds about right.

by Joseph Silverzweig on Nov 19, 2011 11:58 PM MST up reply actions
We'll have to see where we're at in the polls this week...
If we’re not receiving votes, or barely receiving any, we won’t be ranked, even with a win over Colorado.
Where Utah is polling right now, they'll only get in with a 9-4 finish...
They’re still receiving zero votes in the media poll and only gained marginally in the coaches. A win Friday isn’t going to change that. So the ranking will come after the bowl game.
If that even...
I was surprised with how few vote we actually received.
by BetterasIgetolder on Nov 20, 2011 2:35 PM MST up reply actions
Yeah, I didn't think we'd be ranked but I thought we'd receive at least a few votes in the AP Poll.
However, as I looked over the poll, I saw that there aren’t any teams with 4 or more losses ranked. Utah doesn’t have any great victories—BYU is 8–3, Pitt is 5–5, and UCLA is 6–5—to merit being ranked. If Utah wins the bowl game, it would go a long way towards being ranked. Unfortunately, it’d probably help if BYU won the rest of their games (and Pitt, too), which would mean another offseason of hearing how BYU is the bestest team ever.
54-10
So, they can think whatever they want.

I believe Wyoming won 8 games a few years back and didn’t get a bowl invite. I’d guess Utah State is in that same category.
Still, bowl eligible is tangible progress.
There are so many bowls now though.
It’s possible they won’t get in, and they would definitely be one of the first teams on the bubble, but they’re seeing some serious improvement under Anderson, and even qualifying is a big accomplishment for them.

anyone have a link that I can see highlights?
what the hell happened at the end of reg? I was watching game tracker at work.. WSU got to our 1 yard line and couldn’t get it in? I wish I could watch the last 5 minutes somewhere.
Breakdown
They got it to the 1. Looked like it could have been a TD but they didn’t have any timeouts and had to spike it. So it couldn’t be reviewed because they ran a play. They kicked a FG for OT and had possession first. I think Mo Lee got another pick, and then Coleman hit a FG for the win.
by UteinBrooklyn on Nov 20, 2011 12:01 AM MST up reply actions
It was a crazy ending...
Wazzu’s receiver caught the ball, but was AT the one-yard line, barely an inch from the end zone. They then had to hurry up to the line, spiked the ball and called a timeout to kick the game-tying FG.
Thanks
great game to watch…but scary as hell
props to WSU for fighting back every time Utah scored.
by UteinBrooklyn on Nov 20, 2011 12:06 AM MST up reply actions
The last play
Looked like a deep slant route. Throw was on the money, and the receiver left his feet to get it. He got a hold of it and was headed across the goal line when Blechen (I think, not sure on the player) lowered the boom. He stopped the receiver about 12 inches shy of the end zone.
WSU fans are pretty irate that the spot wasn’t reviewed… the call was probably correct, but a review would have been fair. Then Wulff decided to kick it and go for OT. Didn’t work so well.

UCLA would be 2-3 in the division and Utah and ASU would be 3-2. ASU owns the heads up tie breaker against the Utes.

And now that you’ve survived, it’s time to go kick some ass in a bowl game, to prove that FACT to a clueless national press.

ASU can be explained by erickson, this is classic for his teams to just implode and choke everything away. Add in the fact that its a rivalry game and all the pieces just fell into place.

Hate to say it, but USC has the best argument here.
Having played both on the road, their share of the split is the more impressive to me.
USC lost to Stanford at home.
It was a close as losses get, being in triple overtime and all, but it still was a home loss. Now that you mention it, all the losses were at home: Stanford lost at home to Oregon; Oregon lost at home to USC.
Well that's not actually too wacky.
Stanford has 1 loss, so they should be ranked ahead of the other two. But Oregon being ahead of USC is a bit dumb.
If I were to pick a team
That would have the best chance to unseat LSU… it would be (and I hate to say this) USC.

BYU plays their games at such a late time, no one is watching. Their game against NMSU was on ESPNU and didn’t end until around midnight SLC time (2 back east).
