He'll get some love in the offseason
If you aren’t on the preseason watch list—and this goes for any college football award— it’s really hard to become a semi-finalist. I’m not saying that it makes sense. I’m just saying this is not a Utah specific bias.
Next year, you can count on him being on the Doak Walker preseason watch list.

Yes we are.
As I mention in this other comment (Next Year’s Team Outlined) We are looking at a monster team next year, assuming Wynn is good, White and Langi and Oliver running, WR corps with DVC, Dunn, Anderson, Gordon, Scott, OL with 4 good players returning (although tackles are a worry), a monster DL (although it loses Shelby and Aiono), some worry at LB but Blechen, Hale, Fehoko, Boo should be able to hold down the fort, and then the secondary with Lacy and Lee (who both have looked very good this year), plus McGill and Rowe as the safeties.
That team should be scary good.

I’m not sure why Jazzy stuck ‘far’ in front of future. If this team is good enough to get into the Pac-12 championship game… next year’s team with a few lucky breaks can win it.

That's what happens when you get to eight wins with one of the easiest schedules in the country.
Utah has the 29th hardest schedule in the country. BYU? 95th.

Wins matter more than competition, which is how the SEC has risen to such glory.
It’s easy to get wins when every team plays 3 OOC Cupcakes. That way they all enter conference play 3-0, and have racked up rankings.
