Our Utes had a very rough week. Not only did the Football team blow it big time, but the Basketball teams struggled as well.
The Men’s team was out in the Bahamas over the Thanksgiving weekend to participate in the “Battle 4 Atlantis” tournament, and came home after finishing dead last at 0-3.
The team lost to Harvard, UMass, and UNC-Asheville. The team struggled defensively, and with turnovers. While I am seeing some improvement, it’s disappointing to see to see the turnovers continue to be a big factor. And our defense is extremely porous. However, our offense is slowly but surely coming together.
The team needs Jason Washburn to continue to be a force inside. He scored 21 points and grabbed six boards against UNC-Asheville.
I think that if we can get Foster back this year, we have a chance to steal a game or two. We have sorely missed his defensive presence.
Only one game for the runnin Utes this week. They will head out to Fresno to take on the Bulldogs. Fresno St. is not exactly a powerhouse. They are 2-4 with wins over Illinois State and SMU. They have lost to UT-San Antonio and North Dakota State. This week, and I am not kidding, they are playing someone called “The Academy of Art”. Sounds like a team we should schedule.
On the Women’s side, the team struggled in the UTSA tournament. They beat Detroit, but then lost to South Alabama. In the South Alabama game, the team struggled with foul trouble all game and never got into the flow of the game.
The Lady Utes take on Weber State at the Huntsman Center on Thursday.
