So, BYU is being pushed to join a BCS conference. The Big East is shrinking into obscurity and its very existence is being threatened. Like a caged animal backed into a corner, it appears as though the Big East in a last ditch effort to remain relevant, has reached all the way across the country and is courting both BYU and Boise State.
Personally, I find this to be a bit ridiculous. I view the Big East as less than the Mountain West and my view goes even further south with the loss of Pitt, Syracuse and West Virginia. I find it funny that BYU wants into "the club" so badly that it will most likely accept a seat at the little kids table, just to get into the room. I shake my head at the thought of BYU joining the Big East. Moreover, does BYU realize that Utah doesn't lose to Big East teams? I mean, I'm sure BYU didn't have many wins against Utah in the future, but do they really want to seal their fate?
Here is what I have to say to BYU. Take care of business as an independent and wait for an invite to the adult table in a real conference. Follow the Utah model. Utah did it the hard way. Utah kicked down the door and said, "Damn it! Get me my chair!" and they got it. BYU, put on your big boy pants, sack up, and put together a decent undefeated season or two. Take the respect. Don't just get invited to the little kids table out of desperation.
