Hopefully, the basketball team will use it
$22MM…that’s a lot of money. It better pay dividends in competing in the Pac-12.
Go Cuse. Go Utes. Go Kings (hockey version). Go Panthers (hockey version). Go Marlins. Go Dodgers. I despise the NFL and NBA, so don't bore me.
I was being snarky...
The basketball team needs all the help it can get.

Looks amazing...
22 million sounds like a lot less now with tv revenue coming on by then.

If i'm not mistaken
This is funded all without the tv revenue.
Yeah
This is the kind of thing boosters get behind. It’ll probably be the ‘Alex Smith Training Center’ or something. I dunno if A. Smith donates money, but someone will.

I think Weddle might be able to spare some coin
Didn’t he get a small contract extension?
If anyone found my snowboarding gloves after storming the field following the 2004 TDS game, I want them back!
Very impressive
Can’t believe the price tag is only 22 million.
I miss *REAL* Four Loko

I am happy for our university but
other schools are also upgrading their facilities. For instance.
UCLA is completing a massive renovation of Pauley Pavilion
UC Berkeley is redoing their football stadium
UDub is getting an improved Husky stadium
Oregon has the Phil Knight money pipeline and they are always upgrading something.
Nevertheless our new facility is a good thing and much needed.

I prefer facility upgrades over stadium upgrades...
Sometimes it seems that stadiums get too large, and crowd noise is less imposing. I know eventually the Utes will have to upgrade RES, but for right now I think that our stadium provides some of the best crowd noise in the PAC.

Agreed...
RES is a top-notch facility. I’d like it to be a bit bigger, but I think recruits are sold on it quite easily. The other facilities, the IPF and now the training facility are the most important to recruits. Not really stadium size….

I'm of the opinion that Expanding RES needs to be low on the list.
It’s already considered a loud stadium for it’s size, getting featured on ESPN this season. My worry is if they did expand it, they’d screw it up. Changing the layout of the stadium can drastically effect the crowd and noise.
Also Honestly Utah fans haven’t proven they can really support a much larger stadium. All the proof you need of that is to look at the South East corner during any game.
I’m sure it’ll get expanded in a couple years, I only hope that if they do they make it a really really small expansion (5,000 seats), and preferably lower the South End Zone. Also please don’t close in the South side, I like the look of that.
Whatever they do, though it needs to stay in a situation where the sound comes down onto the field, don’t spread it out, where you lose the noise.
southeast corner is just the students all crashing down. From a tickets standpoint they are sold.
"...And on the 7th turnover the Utes rested."

I know from a ticket standpoint they were sold
But the last few couple were not sell outs, No matter what the numbers say.
Expansion won't be seriously talked about for another 4-5 years.
If they do expand, it will be bigger than we anticipate(between 10,000- 20,000) in the south end zone. Once the 10 year agreement to have the Olympic branding (cauldron, etc.) from the olympics ends, that clears up a lot of space.
Hill has already said it would be small
When asked about it, he said it wouldn’t even be discussed for 2-3 years, and when it gets discussed they are looking at a 5-10k expansion, and not much more.
Oregon is breaking ground next year
on a new $41M six story building for the football program. http://sportsbybrooks.com/oregon-football-6-story-41-million-new-facility-29267
and USC is currently working on the $70M, 110,000sf McKay Center. http://uscnews.usc.edu/university/new_athletic_building_to_be_built_on_campus.html

I don't worry about the stadium
Take a kid to one game in there and they’ll want to play. The facilities need serious upgrades before they’ll want to work out and rehab there.

California High Performance Center and Football Stadium.
The High Performance Center for student athletes at California is just about completed and cost about $140 million. The money for this was raised entirely by donations.
It is separate but is right next to the football stadium. It is being rebuilt and will be ready for use in the 2012 football season. The cost for that is about 320 million. Most of this money is hopefully being raised by its endowment seating program. 5% of the seats are covered by this and 55% are sold as of May 2011.
The TV money may end up helping to pay for the football stadium rebuilding but the remodel was started before the Pac 12 TV deal and ideally they want the endowment seating program to pay for the remodel.
For a long time Berkeley became antagonistic to sports especially football. In the last 12 years, the Berkeley administration, athletic director, and most importantly the alumni and fans of the California sports teams all agreed to spend the money to improve the sports facilities and the whole environment for student athletes and coaches.
Like some of the other posts, many other Pac 12 universities are in the process or recently finished upgrading their athletic facilities.
Should be interesting when we get back to Memorial Stadium next year. Too bad you utes didn’t get a chance to view the old stadium before the massive $321 million renovation. Seating should be a little less than what it was before, 68,000. Your next visit back to Berkeley will be in 2015. You could view construction here
In addition, a new $150 million training and class room facility is being built along side the west side of the stadium.

The facilities arms race is in full effect
The cost of the football operations building is included in the 250 million renovation of Husky Stadium. The new building will include Seating capacity isn’t changing, HS already holds 72k. The football operations support building will have locker rooms, weight rooms, team meeting rooms, recruiting lounges, player lounges and coaches offices integrated into the west end zone.

At least they are getting rid of the track.
That was the worst part about Husky stadium, the fact that the fans were so far removed from the field because of the track oval between the field and the seats.
