THE WOLFMAN COMETH! JOHN WHITE IV CARRIES UTAH TO VICTORY IN SUN BOWL

John Fucking White!

Down 14 early in the fourth quarter, the Utes mounted an epic rally behind the arm of Jon Hays and the legs of John White, forced overtime and then STUNNED the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in overtime on a TOUCHDOWN run by the Wolfman himself, JOHN WHITE IV.

White also becomes the SINGLE SEASON RUSHING LEADER in UTAH FOOTBALL HISTORY.

Can I get a wolfman yell?!?

To the Ute offense. I sarcastically doubted their ability to comeback from that deficit. I am glad I was wrong.

Once we started mixing things up, the offense started rolling...

Who would’ve thought not passing on every down and throwing in a few runs here and there would open things up?

IN YOUR LIFE... HAVE YOU EVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THAT???

Great game… I felt like the moment JWIV started getting close to 100, the game changed. The football Gods woke up and did what needed to be done. Gave Hays a bit more accuracy and DVC.

National television, great 4th quarter, should be a boost for recruiting.

The people of Georgia can't believe they lost (Ha Ha)

Reading the game string on the Atlanta Constitution Journal it is clear that Both Dawg and Yellow Jackets feel that Utah is a vastly inferior team that should never have won. Even though we are now part of the AQ party we are like the nouveau riche. We still don’t measure up to their lofty standards.

That’s fine we’ll just keep winning bowl games against them and their ilk until they shut their pie holes.

by uteowl on Dec 31, 2011 4:49 PM MST reply actions

It'll be like that regardless of how long we're in the Pac-12...

They just don’t respect western schools. It’s beyond their comprehension level that good teams actually do exist west of the Mississippi.

Certainly there are exceptions, and maybe G-Tech was the better team overall (I think it’s apples & oranges – our defense is better, their offense is better), but in the end, we won. We’re 2-0 against Tech.

by JazzyUte on Dec 31, 2011 4:51 PM MST up reply actions

Some (many?) of the bests by teams in the west

that we all see aren’t seen in the east, whereas everything positive about those teams are seen again and again and again by those folks. It skews perception to the point that objectivity is almost not possible. As Jazzy notes, it’s beyond their comprehension because of their predisposition.

a fact is a fact is a fact

…you can’t really change that…..

Sure there are some decent teams in the west every once in a while, but yea rin and year out there really is no comparison to SEC football.

by gordon7 on Dec 31, 2011 9:48 PM MST up reply actions

There is no comparison

. . . to the amount of corruption and money tossed around in SEC football either. I’ll take honest and earned decent teams to the SEC shitfest of self adulation and payola any day of the week. As Bobby Bowden said the South never got over losing the war and this is how they thump their chests.

by gordon7 on Jan 1, 2012 6:36 AM MST up reply actions

Agreed

But the SEC, the entire conference, is a shit river of corruption and money throwmn at programs.

I have always been proud of little schools thaat did it without being 1) corrupt and 2) self adulatory dick heads about how awesome they were a s a result of their corrupt behavior.

I will never in my life have to apologize for my school achieving what is has on the field, and its history, as a result of us buying and selling players mate. The entire SEC and old SWC etc, conference glories and traditions are hallmarks of dishonest behavior,

You should be proud!

Great game...

and good win for us. White really didn’t seem like he had a good game and still got the big run at the end and the record, really happy for him. Star is going to be an absolute animal next year.

And for the love of a deity, will anyone who was saying Jon Hays could be this teams starting QB next year please just drop that argument. He’s got to be the worst starting QB in major college football.

by slc ranger on Dec 31, 2011 4:57 PM MST reply actions

Hays was uneven today...

He had the horrendous pick six, but also the two big TD throws and all those lovely outs to Asiata. It’d be nice if he were more consistent, but he’s not the bubonic plague.

by kadoogan on Dec 31, 2011 5:02 PM MST via mobile up reply actions

Hays did nothing...

besides make bad throw after bad throw, a pick 6 that nearly cost us the game, and held onto the ball way too long at times.

He’s terrible, period. I really don’t see how anyone can watch him play and think otherwise. Yes, his receivers bailed him out at times. His ‘two big TD throws’ were first off a 3 yard pass to the wrong guy with Matthews wide open, and a decent fade pattern throw that Devonte made a play on. He was throwing behind his receivers or short of them all day.

He’s not a D1 QB.

by slc ranger on Dec 31, 2011 5:15 PM MST up reply actions

Who are these people that think he should start next year?

by chester_copperpot on Dec 31, 2011 5:37 PM MST up reply actions

Not that I disagree with this point

I’m just glad that when we really, really needed him at last he stepped up and came through in the clutch.

He will be remembered for those last two TD passes and that he helped us comeback and be in position to win.

He will live in Utah football history for that if nothing else.

As far as I’m concerned if he never touches a ball in a game for us that’s just fine, but we didn’t waste a scholarship on him either.

White had 115 yards, and the game winning td

against a quality opponent that spent a month gearing up to stop him.

And the numbers weren’t inflated by any “garbage”, as sometimes happens, even to the best players.

With all due respect to certain other backs, with LaMichael James and Chris Polk likely going to the NFL, JW IV is likely the best back in the Pac next year.

After the loss to Colorado cost Utah a shot at the Pac-12 Title

this comeback win was absolutely huge.

It could have been a very ugly off-season with another loss.

But as I mentioned elsewhere earlier, Utah has responded to adversity, which they have had a lot of, pretty well this year.

This win will make a major change in the atmosphere around the program going through the off-season.

But we will take it.

Hayes did just enough to make up for the interception and to get us the win. JB4, DeVonte, and our defense deserve kudos of the highest order.

After this season? That wasa huge win. I have to say, the way GT was running on us, when there was 10 minutes and they were up by 14 I was sick to my gut. What an awesome gaame and for a little back like White, and Hays threw very well considering the holding by GT, I mean, I am gushing, I’m spazzing out, I’m spotting, I may throw up.

We actually did play well considering all the injuries

esp on the OL, which hasn’t been a strength all year. And your FB Asiata is the unsung hero IMO. His blocking was phenomenal and we couldn’t stop that pass route out of the backfield all game. Great playcalling by Chow, and conversely, horrible playcalling by Johnson in the 4th quarter. It drove me crazy.
