Dave Schramm could be Fresno State's next OC
Utah's offense is potentially losing another coach, as Dave Schramm, who was Utah's OC for part of the '09 season and currently their running back's coach, has been offered, and apparently has accepted, the job.
Hard to fault Schramm for taking an offensive coordinator gig, which is a clear step up from his current position, especially since it's unlikely he'll be named to a similar position with the Utes.
I like Schramm, though. I think he's a decent running backs coach and brings a lot of intensity to the sidelines. But it's clearly a good opportunity for him and speaks highly of the Utah football programs as a whole - the fact their assistants are so desirable.

I met Schramm in the OAK airport earlier this year
Dude was a total a** hole. Others I know closer to the program have said the same. I’m happy for him but definitely not losing sleep over him leaving. Besides, most OC’s we may hire are likely going to want to bring in another guy or two and Schramm’s departure will help free up space.

Interesting that the offensive staff for Utah is so desirable.
Utah finished dead last in most offensive categories in the Pac-12, and yet we’ve lost 2 offensive coaches. They did a good job this year considering the injuries, but it’s funny that two other programs think so highly of them.
Congrats Coach
He’s a great guy and good coach, fare well in all your endeavors and thank you for being so good for Utah football.

This may not be the end.
Sitake is rumored to be a top target for Sark in Washington. They have BYU connections.
Damn, my eyeball tastes good.
@chrislandon
Doubt it
I don’t buy it, any more than I buy the “Sitake to Hawaii as DC” rumors. If Sitake’s going anywhere it’s to be head coach. To be D-coordinator at Hawaii was a step backwards, and to be D-coordinator at some other Pac-12 school is a lateral move.
a lateral move at double his $170k salary
… if not more than double. Holt made 4x that.
Damn, my eyeball tastes good.
@chrislandon
I can't believe
He’d do a lateral move. He might make more money (although I’m sure raises are coming), but right now, he’s the DC of one of the best defenses in the entire country. He wouldn’t get that with Washington and might fade into obscurity.

Well, no need to debate this anymore, he's not going...
They hired Tennessee’s DC.
I’ve heard Sitake was actually offered the job but turned it down. Don’t know if it’s true or not.
Good
I’m just glad they’ll avoid the whole “Co-Offensive Coordinator” nonsense they had going on.
My bet is Aaron Roderick will be OC, and he’ll try to continue what Norm was doing, the West Coast/Spread hybrid.
recruits
Does he take any recruits with him?

Marc Pouvave & York are his important onces...
Pouvave has been hit twice. He was recruited by both Scrhamm and Chow and both are leaving. I’m not sure if he sticks and that would suck because he seems like a good kid.
York, of course, is that great RB out of California and while I don’t think it’ll be enough to force him to change his commitment, you never know.
York is a mid-year, right?
Isn’t York signed already?

Yeah, I guess he is...
So, we don’t have to worry abouit it.
Unless he goes postal and decides to just not play football anymore (unlikely).
It's way more than unlikely.
Schramm leaves so he quits football? That’s madness.

Oh well...
Maybe Jamal Anderson should come home and coach the rb’s…

Please explain
I can’t believe I don’t this story about anderson
NEW OC possibilities
Mike Martz
Rick Neuheisel
I would be open to a position coach from Stanford with knowledge of their O
Really looking forward to who Whit picks…
Neuheisel?
I can’t say i see that working… you’ve got a lot of personal issues that may crop up what with the Chow hire and the Chow people involved. Then you have the pistol offense, when Whit wants to move to a pro-style. Then you finally have the dramatic lack of success at UCLA… I think we can do better.
I too am really looking forward to this story, and wish it was getting more play.

Martz
On the other hand, would be really great… I just don’t know if we can afford him. How much was he making in Chicago? I imagine he would want a head coaching gig, also. If he’s interested in being a college OC… we couldn’t do much better. His offense was pretty darn successful in Chicago and that’s a big name for recruits.

I think...
Neuhiesel was only interested in the pistol based on his personal. I really don’t think he would be a good idea but a big name and his players loved him. He’s really put together some solid offensive years in Washington and Colorado. I’d like to see what he could do when he is just focused on the offense. Correct me if I’m wrong, but under Neuheisel, UCLA was set to sign the one of the best rated recruiting class in the PAC-12(rivals, scout both have them in the top 25 in the nation). So, he could also help with our Cali recruiting.
Don’t get me wrong, i am not pushing for Neuheisel. I feel like that would be like the jazz bringing in Josh Howard (oh wait, they did). He doesn’t match our ethic…
Wynn could not survive a Martz Offense.
I’m a St. Louis Rams fan, who was, and still kind of am, pissed that Martz got fired.
That said, I can assure you that Wynn just would not be able to survive the pounding he would take in a Martz offense.
That's an interesting point
My wife is a Rams fan too, so I feel your pain. Is it the scheme that leads to all of that punishment, or the personnel? I was under the impression that the Bears focused on drafting skill players and defense, and that it showed up on the O-line.
I love the guys we have coming in on the O-line. Some really exciting 3 and 4 star players.

Scheme a slight bit more than personnel
With the Rams, he had personnel input, and as such he focused on speed, speed, and more speed, and really didn’t worry about the OL.
That said his scheme uses a lot of longer developing and deeper routes, which require the OL to hold their blocks a bit longer. The routes are all very much timing routes, so they don’t lend themselves to the QB running around and then throwing the pass, instead making him stand there and throw it to catch the time.
He’s very good at developing QB’s. He’s made lesser QB’s better almost every where he went. But he’s also very demanding on his QB’s, and the system is very tough on QB’s.
Can't wait
