Red-White game is today
The annual Red-White game marks an end to spring camp and, unfortunately, college football for the remainder of spring and most of summer.
It's always a bit bittersweet because this day is one for the fans and certainly enjoyable - but it's also when college football officially goes into hibernation and now we've got to find other means to occupy our minds until August.
That won't be easy. Alas, none of this matters today. No, enjoy the nice weather, a return to Rice-Eccles Stadium and, above all, time with our fellow Utes.
Tailgating begins early in the morning and the game takes place at 1:00 inside the stadium. After the scrimmage, players and coaches will be on hand to take photos, sign autographs and pretty much meet the fans.
If you're heading up to the stadium, and spot me, come and say hi!
Anyway, enjoy yourselves and good luck trying to get to the stadium with how mucked up everything will be due to the Salt Lake City Marathon.

good luck to both teams.
Jon " Bones " Jones new light heavyweight champion. Even if Jones got struck flush in the face he would recover and defeat whoever is in front of him. I told everyone the fight would be easy. Almost felt sorry for Rua. Anderson Silva would never fight "Bones". He is too scared to fight the real P4P champion. Nick Diaz is near the peak of his career. 2 more fights and then he fights for UFC Glory.

Trevor Reilly jumped an O-lineman
I couldn’t believe my eyes. Jumped right over the top of him. Plus he had 2.5 sacks. Watching him jump the O-lineman made my day though.

Reilly
did do a good job, what 2.5 sacks.

D-News has a picture of it
(here) and their caption says he actually jumped Lucky Radley, a smallish RB. Still awesome though.
I keep accidentally eating my pets. Maybe I should get something less appetizing, like a cat instead of a Twinkie.

A Couple impressions
Reilly is a man child. Always in the backfield. He had the highlight of the night with the jump over the OL.
I Like Langi. He may run upright, but one thing I noticed is he always falls forward and gains an extra yard or two.
Lucky Radley, John White, and Griff McNabb are Small. Or more precise TINY. Lucky and White both showed some good speed, but White had a huge fumble in the redzone.
Defense is by far farther along than the offense. But that’s to be expected. The offense could move the ball between the twenties, but there wasn’t a lot of scoring.
Wynn’s job is safe. Schreve has an arm, and is very athletic, but he needs to learn when to dump it off. His accuracy also leaves something to be desired. We honestly already knew what we had in Robles.
Finally my biggest disappointment of the game, was the lack of Thretton Palamo. I was excited to see the kid who’s been making all the noise in spring practice. He got the ball a couple times on White’s first drive, and after that was a decoy most of the time.
Overall I’d say this isn’t the best squad in the Pac-12 right now, but it’s also not the worst by far. This team is right where they should be, and should be really interesting to see in the Fall when Wynn is back to lead his offense. Also the RB battle is going to be interesting to watch. We have 4 capable backs it seems. I worry about White, and Radley’s ability to take a pounding with their big frames, but small backs have succeeded in College Football, and especially the Pac-12 (James, Jaquizz).
Running back in spring practice
Langi was the highlight of the night at this position. There was one drive where they just pounded him down the middle multiple times in a row for first downs. He was definitely the back that shined running between the tackles.
I expected more out of Thretton. It seemed like they really never used him. He was more of a decoy during thre practice and didn’t get a lot of touches. Maybe this is a sign he is winning the battle and the coaches were trying to save him. They did hold out on a lot of starters.
White and Radley were all right. My memory is mixing them up a bit so I will talk about them as one. They had some good runs. Some of them I thought they could have run up a hole in the middle and chose to skip around the edge instead. They made some gains catching the corner that I don’t think would work during PAC 12 play where there will be a faster backfield than backups playing in a spring game. White really is small and speedy though. He might be able to hide behind the line some.

RB n WR
I viewed the running game differently than others on here. Langi was impressive with his ability to get downhill fast. Thretton was productive when they used him, including a nice swing pass were he gained 10. I was actually really impressed with White (even though he fumbled). He’s short, but built well
and has great speed and laterel movement. And unlike bradley, White can run inside. I see Langi and Palamo getting most of the snaps, and White as a situational back
I was dissapointed with the wideouts. Numerous dropped balls and a few weak
efforts. Hopefully that will change with Christopher coming back.

In the WR's defense
There weren’t that many well thrown passes.
That was my opinion too.
The timing was off and a lot of passes off target. I think the receivers showed some potential to get open though. Hopefully over summer and fall the kinks will be ironed out.
"From the end spring new beginnings." - Pliny the Elder
Yeah, I'm not worried...
I’d actually be more worried if the defense struggled more. The offense is in a tough spot right now, so I expected them to have issues.
I totally agree
It is still a new offense that takes time to implement. I like the overall style of the new offense. I think the new look is good.
As the O-line builds back up to full strength and the QB and receivers get more practice on their timing things will get better.
I think we are fine at running back. Even though there isn’t a lot of experience, there is talent.
"From the end spring new beginnings." - Pliny the Elder
One issue with the WR's
Was Ransom having Alligator Arms in the first half.
My project offensive starting lineup
Hopefully when the team gets back together for fall practice Wynn will be ready to go. Looking forward, I see the starting line-up as follows.
Offense
QB: Wynn
RB: Langi/Palamo
TE: Kenddrick Moeai
OL: Cullin, Brennen, Bergstrom, ?, Stevens
WR: Christopher, Matthews, Quinton Pedroza (4 star to arrive in fall), Dexter (#88)
- With a healthy O-line, and a healthy Wynn I see some potential for Utah’s offense to be very productive.

One good think I hear from Wynn
Is him talking about, as soon as he gets clearance he’s going to arrange players only throwing sessions.
1. This shows great leadership.
and
2. Great way to overcome his lost time.
Honestly other than a greater focus on standard running, instead of the useless Zone Read, the offense didn’t seem that different, so I don’t think Wynn’s lost time is that great an issue.
I like your projected offense, however, Part of me would like to see Langi redshirt a year, because Langi and Palamo seem like the same type of back, plus as much of a stud as he was on Saturday, with another year he’ll be a beast. I’m not sure that White/Radley can hold up as the 2nd back though.
WR’s are what they are at Utah. While we rarely have that super stud, we always seem to just produce WR’s, and this year seems no different.
agreed

I agree on Thretton
The only conclusion we could come to as we watched it, is that the Coaches think they know what they’ve got in him, and he’s already done his impressing.
As for Radley and White, I’m not sold on them yet either. White got completely stood up at the goal line (Still don’t know why Thretton didn’t get a sniff while down there).
I thought Radley had a great first quarter, a couple of good runs but I don’t remember seeing him later in the game, I did have to leave at half time however.
the offensive line
for the red team was great, but in the second half it was not as good. That is why Radley had a good quarter.

A lot of the O-line was playing both sides of the ball all game.
We are a bit thin at O-line for spring.

The QBs have bad form
Robles and schreve have a terrible throwing motion, they both keep the ball down at their side just like rim tebow used too (including the sidearm throw). That is why both of them had accuracy problems. Hell I have a better motion and I’m a high school QB! These two have
alot to work on before I will be comfortable
with them on the field.

Shreve
is much better then Robles, but it is not as if Shreve is amazing. He does make some very good throws at time, but not enough to push Wynn in the fall.

Wynnn better be ready this fall
Because so far the backups aren’t ready yet. I think Shreve has potential, he has a nice arm. He is young and needs more experience. Robles has nice athleticism, but I think he is more of a spread offense QB than a pro style QB.

So out of curiosity
Does anyone know if they recovered Storm the Red Tailed Hawk after he flew away?
I didn't notice storm was lost.
I know the Air Force falcon mascot flew away before the independence bowl. (Video) They had a tracking device on it though so they were able to find the bird and get him back.
"From the end spring new beginnings." - Pliny the Elder
Hawk Feathers . . .
I’ve heard that Storm is a bit of a hot-button issue in the Athletic Department. With a hawk as a mascot, we can continue to use the Circle and Feather™ logo when (if) we lose permission to be associated with the Ute tribe. There has been a shift away from calling it a Drum and Feather logo.
This seems like a good backup plan, but I feel sorry for that bird. He was hanging upside down by a strap nearly every time the trainer took him off the field last year. It would be cool to see the bird go postal on anybody wearing a BYU hat :)
What we do for political correctness . . .
I like Storm
Now if a red tailed hawk replaces the drum and feather as the main logo I would hate it. The red tailed hawk is a nice secondary mascot.
