All signs point to Larry Krystkowiak as Utah's next head coach

Even though 83% of Block U readers would feel better with Mark Gottfried as head coach, Mike Grant of KSL has tweeted the apparent news: Larry Krystkowiak, current NBA assistant, will be Utah's next head coach.

Meh_medium

I'm guessing we'll get news either tomorrow or Monday. But after three weeks of suspense and agony, Utah has its man. A guy who's only coached at the collegiate level for five years.

He better have a damn impressive group of assistants coming with him to Salt Lake or I fear this hire will end as badly as the last two.

Blech

I keep accidentally eating my pets. Maybe I should get something less appetizing, like a cat instead of a Twinkie.

Yuck.

I think I just threw up a little in my mouth. I’m not feeling this one Dr. Hill. I want to trust you, but I gotta a bad feeling. Prove me wrong, LK. PLEASE prove me wrong.

Hopefully 3rd times the charm

Krystkowiak wasn’t even my 3rd choice, but seeing as he’s about to be a Ute I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt and my support.

If this hire doesn’t work out, will Hill be in the hot seat? Sure he’s made great hires with the football team, but he’s striking out with his basketball hires.

Lets get Boguts' reaction....

or Ty Corbins’ and/or someone’s who has actually played for and/or ACTUALLY KNOWS our knew coach before you gut him at the get go! What a welcoming committee is all I can say. “only 5 years”, “he better”, blah blah blah or what, Jazzyute? You’ll write some more of your yadda yadda BS criticisms? You have made it ABUNDANTLY clear you don’t like the choice. Get over it and give the man a chance. What a bunch of gloom and doomers….I say Congrats UTAH on a great hire! The rest of you naysayers line up for warm crow…. if youre standup enough to even admit you were wrong when serving time comes…. and it will.

I don't need Bogut or Corbin to tell me how to think about this guy tyvm.

This is not a good hire for many reasons, not least of which is that he has the least impressive resume of all the candidates being considered. Welcome to four more years of sub par basketball at Utah. At least we know that when Krystkowiak is done, Utah will officially be a job no one wants.

Okay.

You got me! Let’s go ask Will Clyburn if we should have fired Boylen.

What do you think his response would be?

Nah

What’s difference between this Asst Coach and the last? A brief stint as head coach at a minor collegiate program and a failed attempt as a pro head coach. Not much of a resounding difference or enough to get me on the Krystkowiak bandwagon.

My gut tells me this is a terrible choice. If it came down to which of the two (K or G) was cheaper we may rue the day.

ALL previous associations and evaluations ARE part of a resume....

that’s why WE don’t do the hiring. Despite our own high opinions of our own expert analysis, we don’t know JACK. Mock the man if you must…. expert resume reader.

Look, I'm not going to hammer you for your unyielding love of the man...

Please don’t hammer me for having some legitimate concerns. All right?

This Comment from sltib.com sums it up perfectly

“So Hill hired Giacoletti, a Big Sky coach. That didn’t work. Then he hired Boylen, an NBA assistant. That didn’t work. Now he hires Krystkowiak, who was both a Big Sky coach, and an NBA assistant. "

Whoa there...

Look, one thing we hve to come to grips with is that our current job isn’t exactly a dream come true for most coaches. The roster is bursting with final four/NBA level talent, our facilties need some SERIOUS upgrading and the salary is reportedly only ok. Many coaches will take a look because Urban ang KW have demonstrated that it is a place you can take the raw material and make something great out of it. This is only enhanced by our move to the PAC 12. Gottfried and Krystowiak are about as good as it was going to get right now and the fortunate thing for us is the rumours are both can coach. Hill went with the safer pick of the two and that might be because of salary or the questionable things in Gottfried’s past (which weren’t proven to be true) or something else. Let’s not lose sight of the fact that the Bucks felt good enough about LK to hand the reins of an NBA franchise and he won at freakin’ Montana. I, for one, am going to give the guy a chance before I say it was a horrible choice.

But Gottfried ....

has a more impressive collegiate resume and a proven track record. If his resume is the “best” we could get, it was pretty damn good.

agreed

I would have preferred Gottfried as well, but negotiations must have broken down somewhere.
