So on an interview during the Red & Blue show for 104.7 the zone, Brian Johnson mentioned he had his recruiting assignments changed to now be Southern California area.
Then Lya wrote this blog talking about further recruiting changes.
Putting more focus in California just makes sense. We'll be playing there once a year now, and Utah has moved up in the pecking order in the area. Considering California was an area we did pretty well in prior to the Pac-12, increasing it as a recruiting base is a no brainer.
It does bring up two areas of concern though.
First, I'm not sure I like having only one person in Texas. Granted Scalley and Johnson have helped us to build a pretty big recruiting base in the Lone Star State. However, Texas is a big state, and just having the Houston area covered, leaves a lot of the state still to mine.
Secondly, I'm not sure I like reducing the Island presence. Sure we'll still hit Hawaii, but what about the rest of the Poly Pipeline. What's really helped Utah, has been that pipeline. Even the CBS article today mentioned Jeff Fanene. Granted there are a big number of Polynesians in the area, that we can still get.
Just wondering what some of your thoughts are?
