Utah baseball downs UVU 15-8

James Brooks' six hits tied a school record as Utah baseball overwhelmed the UVU Wolverines 15-8 in a windy and cold Tuesday night contest down in Orem.

Utah opened the game with an impressive first inning, scoring five runs on their way to a quick 9-2 start and held off the Wolverines' comeback hopes when they pulled within three in the sixth. Two runs in the seventh, however, ended any comeback and the Utes won their second straight contest and their 19th total on the season.

Trey Neilsen had a three-run home run in the first, as Utah wasted little time getting on the board.

UVU is currently at the top of the Great West Conference and had already defeated the Utes earlier this season. However, Utah, fresh off a series-winning three game set against Tulane, proved too much for the 15-19 Wolverines.

Brooks is the fifth player in program history to have six hits and the first since Doug Beck in 2005. Beyond just his hits, though, he drove in six runs.

Luke West earned his first career start for the Utes, who used a total of four pitchers Tuesday. Reliever Stephen Streich pitched three innings and recorded his first win of the season.

Utah now returns to conference play as they travel to take on Air Force for a three-game set Friday. They will also complete the March 27th contest that was halted due to travel plans. It's a game Utah leads 9-4 through seven innings.

Pretty much...

We’ve got to get through a lot of months of non-football. I think I’ll start rolling out football discussion by late May, early June.

I like it...even though I hate baseball.

Ever look at California Golden Blogs? They cover EVERYTHING from football to Olympic sports to womens’ table tennis. I’m not saying that Block U should go that far, but whatever they want to cover, I’m all for.

I will follow it all too

I will follow it all. I look forward to a PAC 12 TV deal that will also cover the non revenue sports.

Utah tennis has put together a top recruiting class this year.

They lost to Colorado.

OH I'M NOT BASHING JAZZY

Just pointing out with that being the big post of the day, the off season is here. I also struggle with enjoying college baseball, because climate determine how good you can be.

Aluminum Bats

I just hate the sound of the metal bats.

Yeah, off season is....well boring.

I don’t enjoy college baseball either…well, any baseball. I have tried on multiple occasions to get into it and I just can’t.

You have good points. I am trying to pass the moment though.

It is nice to at least be sitting 2nd in conference right now.

TCU and Utah are the only teams with a winning conference record at the moment. BYU is breaking even, and the rest have a losing conference record.

The way it is going now, there won’t be a team next year that had a winning record in conference.

They'll gain a good team with Fresno, though...

But baseball at BSU is only a club sport and I’m not sure how good Nevada’s team is (they’re 15-20 overall this season).

TCU will still be in the MWC next year

They don’t join the Big East until July 1, 2012.

sporting news has utah at #21 in their preseason rankings.

we are ahead of asu and usc. i guess they have us winning the the pac-12 south. good news.

Jon " Bones " Jones new light heavyweight champion. Even if Jones got struck flush in the face he would recover and defeat whoever is in front of him. I told everyone the fight would be easy. Almost felt sorry for Rua. Anderson Silva would never fight "Bones". He is too scared to fight the real P4P champion. Nick Diaz is near the peak of his career. 2 more fights and then he fights for UFC Glory. The Wolfman. The most popular man on Mania and the Elder Statesman on all things MMA.

Wow 15 runs off of 17 hits for the Utes...pretty impressive

I go to school at UVU but haven’t been to any games this season. Not too interested in UVU baseball but still pretty impressive.

Utah is having a pretty good season...

They came off a 2-1 series win over Tulane down in New Orleans and are second in the MWC (even though they were picked 6th).

Hope they keep it up and can make a run at a tournament berth (that will only come via the conference tournament).

No it's referring to Deron Williams

Although I guarantee the beer that was poured on Max Hall’s family wasn’t Pliny the Elder ;)
