J.J. O'Brien leaves program
Lya Wodraska has tweeted that J.J. O'Brien has been granted a release from the U. He joins Will Clyburn, who earlier this week left the program.
It should be noted O'Brien has not ruled out returning to the program, but right now would like to explore all options.
If O'Brien were to leave, it would be a huge blow for a coaching staff that isn't even finalized at the moment. But we'll see how this plays out. Hopefully O'Brien decides to stay.

I really want Larry K. to succeed but....
The more I think about it, the more I believe this next year is gonna be a brutal awakening to any Ute fans who still care about basketball.
Fear the MUSS!!
NNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
This sucks. He’s the only one I wanted to stay out of everyone. Hopefully he changes his mind.
Well...
that’s it.
There goes the only guy left in the program that I give a shit about.
This sucks.

Can't agree more
I really don’t see anything out there that would be better for J.J. but I guess he is the only one that truly knows. I just hope that he comes back. Larry K. said last night that he still thinks there is a good chance that both will be back. There are others that I wouldn’t mind seeing explore other options.
crap
Well, Larry K sure has his work cut out for him.
On the other hand, I do remember last year when most of the team left, Chris Hines left and then came back. Obviously, JJ Obrien means much more than Chris Hines, Im just wondering if this is a knee-jerk reaction to Will.

The difference is nobody wanted Hines
There will be plenty of schools willing to take OBrien.

Hines had offers
but he ultimately came back because he could the most playing time at utah. Obviously, Obrien will get much more, but i think he knows that if he comes back, he is “the man” at utah. The best anyone else can offer him is a year on the bench and then a “we will see” as far as playing time goes.
I think he will be back.

coaches tend to do better with their own recruits. larry k. just needs a few years if the ad is patient
The University of Utah is off to the Pac-12 Conference and will be in the South Division. Hopefully we will get to the first ever Pac-12 Championship Game. Jon " Bones " Jones new light heavyweight champion. Even if Jones got struck flush in the face he would recover and defeat whoever is in front of him. I told everyone the fight would be easy. Almost felt sorry for Rua. Anderson Silva would never fight "Bones". He is too scared to fight the real P4P champion. The Cult of Personality is here. Also, the most honorable man is here.

I wouldn't read too much into it...
Probably not rec’d because of the player leaving…but the importance of the story.
(and no, I didn’t do it. I can’t rec my own posts).
I think there is a good chance somebody gave the rec just to show the appreciation for the work you do.
No offense, but I will never rec one of your posts that reports bad news. Even if it is a breaking story where you did some great sleuthing.

Lack of Heart
Could this be why Boylens guys failed. No heart good riddance
by uteman5 on Apr 9, 2011 9:00 AM MDT via mobile reply actions
My thought exactly.
I would love for these guys to stay, but ultimately I want guys who want to be UTES. Not guys who just want what’s best for them (playing time, etc). Even if they’re here because Utah offers the degree they want and none of their other offers did, that’s great. They still WANT to be here. Guys who bail like this usually don’t know what they wan, and lack of direction and commitment bring instability. I wish them the best in whatever they decide.
Really!!!
Wouldn’t it be a good idea to discuss possible head coaching changes with the athletes on your team before a change is made? Maybe that might smooth over the transition a little better and wouldn’t have such a mass exodus. Huge disappointment with Clyburn and O’Brien leaving. To me this seems like this is already setting Coach K up for failure. Its not a matter of heart to me but an issue with the basketball athletic program failing to recruit on behalf of the schools philosophy rather based upon a coaches alone.
How can he fail
He’s already at zero. I see a rebuild begining, he just needs to be given the time now and time it will take

Utah has a reputation now
Not a great one. Need some serious stability at coaching. Need guys committed to the U.
What doe sit say about our school if at the first sign of adversity half the team bails? Like they’re looking for an excuse, any excuse, to run away.
Don’t know that I want that kind of kid playing for us.
